Greetings all!
Ever since V2.8 was released many people have been wanting to begin building their own Staged Missions. Some got confused, some even got frustrated. Yes there is a perfectly good tutorial available in the Contents Index of the Editor; But I thought a video tutorial along with a written In-Depth tutorial would be useful to help people get started.
The tutorial covers merely the basics to help people sink their teeth into the wonders of the Editor
VIDEO TUTORIAL:

Good luck all! <S>

About half way through this. Just wanted to say thanks for the time and effort. Sure made it easier to understand :aok

Very informative video. Thanks for taking your time to create it.

That Crabby is awesome, huh?

A picture is worth a thousand words a video must be worth a million. Thanks for the tutorial. Only problem is it makes me want more.

Don't worry - I'll be making another Tutorial with the same idea but covering the little nuances - sure it would be a longer video - but I hope it will help people with mission performance...

<S> On the sticky MrKrabs, you deserve it.
Looking forward to the next video.

For those that don't know. shift+right mouse key held down+dragging the mouse = zoom view... and ctrl+right mouse key held down + dragging the mouse = move view. :)

Is there a mission editor tutorial for the Beta version anywhere ?
MrKrabs was going to do one for the beta according to another post.
I would like to try making an offline mission for gunnery practice against aggressive AI aircraft. However the Help > Contents selection does nothing when I attempt to bring it up.

Can anyone explain the workings of the terrain setup file?
Can you change arena and field settings in a custom arena or offline, save them, and use that as the terrain setup file?
-
Brooke,
See the posts in the custom arena forum on using arena tables. Saving Settings, solved is the post title I think.

I know how to change and save the settings in AH.
But I'm not sure what you type into the box called "terrain setup file", or what that input box does if you fill in something other than "(default)" or, in my case, "tunisia".
What does that input box in the Mission Editor do? Does it read in the settings file you made for offline play? Does it try to read in a settings file that is on an online server? If for offline play, what do you type in, just the file name, or the whole path and file name?
-
Brooke,
If you have saved any terrain tables for the particular terrain you chose for the mission, the name of those tables will show up in the pull down menu. Select one and when you upload the file to the server and someone checks the box use mission arena settings in a custom arena, it will load that table. The table is uploaded when you upload the staged mission. If you saved a table under the name Tunisia, that is why it shows up. The saved tables are listed in the individual terrain folders in the chconfig folder in AH. Offline, I think you have to load the table, but I am not sure about that.

Awesome! Thanks for the info! :aok

OK, got a terrain up.
But double clicking on a base does nothing (unlike Crabs video tutorial).
How do you start laying in things that happen?
Also, clicking on "help->contents" shows nothing, so there is no help file (even a rudimentary one).

Yep, the help file went away and the pdf of the Krabbs tutorial link is also dead. If you have a copy, please post it. Starting new file right click on Allied Mission 1, add route, left click on the map at the point you want the flight to originate, then release, left click again and hold and drag the arrow to the end point of your first segment. Be aware myself and others have had problems with missions originating on air fields and most of mine have been in air spawns because of that and it is time efficient.

I posted an AH III staged mission editor tutorial in the staged mission forum since this forum does not support attachments.
