is the current correct site.

The VF-17 Jolly Rogers are recruiting pilots interested in US Naval Aviation.
New pilots and vets equally welcomed.
We do ask you be 18 or more years of age and have an account with HTC.
You are also required to have a sense of humor when joining
Squad Nights
Corsair training : Monday, 10:00pm Est
FSO Training :Thursday, 10:00 pm Est
FSO: Friday, 11:00 pm Est
Our primary focus aircraft is the F4U and it's variants, primarily the 1a. But we are happy to fly any US navy Iron. We train a lot in this squad, so if you are looking to up your game, love blue planes, and like to work as a team, we might be right for you.
We are also an active FSO squad, so being able to participate in FSO on a regular basis is required. We know things come up in real life, so we don't expect everyone to make every frame, but expect you to make it when you can.
New recruits, will probably be spending a lot of time with me or a fellow veteran to determine weaknesses in merge tactics and plane handling. We hold our F4U flying to high standards, and we'll do our best to bring you up to speed quickly.
As a squad we are always actively trying to improve, both individually and together as a team. In the last two years, we've made great strides in both aspects. So we expect any new recruits to try and hit as much practice time as possible (don't worry practices are normally fun and intense).
Trust us when we say anybody that has been with us for any length of time is proud to display the Jolly Roger (http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h141/whiteman78/VF-17/vf17.jpg)

Thanks to all in VF-17 for bringing me on board. Being a noob I was certainly nervous about joining a squad, but I have to say, if you are serious about wanting to learn the game, this is the squad for you. The trainers are patient, the FSO's are intense and the members have made me feel right at home. Training, Training, and more Training.... :rock VF-17 is highly respected in the community, professional, fun and entertaining. There is something here for the noobs and experienced sticks as well. I have to say, I was in awe of the experience and talent of the flyers in this squad on my first FSO... It has been a great experience with them so far and I hope to be flying here for many years to come... :airplane:
Wizard
-
Wizard, that was very well-said. Good to have you aboard. Hope you didn't mind too much the distraction I caused you in your training session yesterday (remember: WHEELS DOWN when landing :bolt:)
Wzard has it right: everyone who flies in our group has a great time, especially during FSOs. We are a tight-knit group, but we make an effort to make any new person feel welcome and at home, as soon as possible. We check our egos at the hangar door before climbing into the cockpit, and there are no cliques in our group, aside from the normal element lead/ wingman coordination: good communication/ coordination between wingmen and between elements and flight leader is highly emphasized. Flying together in FSO is always a good mix of hilarity, discipline, white-knuckle "Oh, Sh%*t WTF is BC doing down there?", and camaraderie.
Come, see if you have what it takes to "fly blue". :airplane:
-
You scurvy lot always forget the perks... What about the free plastic parrot and eye patch and vf-17 doo rag. That will get em knocking on the commanders door. :aok
I have flown with many great squads in aces high. But I have to say that this one is the best I have have had the privilege to fly with. From command down they are top notch. :salute
So come to the Training arena some evening and take a look see. You will normally find one of us in there. :airplane:
-
The pillow fighters that BigRat have hired for this year are smoking hot!
Come raid our liquor cabinet. It's well furnished.
We also have a well furnished medical cabinet. You know how it is. A GF in every port. Sometimes it itch and burn a little but nothing cream and antibiotic will not fix! :devil
Fly NAVY!

Langley, welcome to the squad :salute

Hmmm.... Now all I need is some advice on how to get my cooler strapped down to the cockpit floor of a F4U-1A !! The bottles rolling under the rudder pedals are a distraction.... :headscratch:
Great Squad !! Great Fun !! Come join us !!

Well that's good ta know. Truth be told, I was ferrying my new bird in from a rear field when the engine conked and I went in the drink. I was lucky one of these was in the neighborhood to fish me out:

Of course, whenever they saw a bucket sporting a meatball, well, they just had to stop and do sumpin' bout that:

Silent Hunter 4: when I'm not flight simming, I'm sub simming. Great game :rock
It's not bad ... once it's modded (if I can avoid modsoup messes that ctd).
Sub simming offline represents hours of cruising the pacific in order to find the enemy and hopefully have a torp not dud or sink or circle or prematurely explode so you can get at least a kill before the supernatural Japanese DDs make you sweat for an hour or more to just delay the inevitable. Good fun but way different than ACM.

Working on it. I like the similarities. Both have a well known reputation in their assigned aircraft. Both units immediately recognizable because of their markings. Both are Navy units operating from the squalid conditions of South Pacific land bases compared to the comfortable living conditions of their carrier borne brothers.

You have got some great points there. I once thought it would be cool if VF-17, itself, had a dual personality (what
with all the opfor duty we did in AvA - may as well do it with a specific alter-personality in mind). One with strong
similarities, in spite of sides, is just that much more appealing. :D

That would be very cool, plus would do both squads some good as far as SA with the icons lowered and good training for FSO.
Plus right now except for a couple of our hardcore Samurai Hightone and TxCoyote, most of us in the Tainan Kokutai could really
use the experiance of wringing out Japanese birds against some very well flown Corsairs. I'm working on the website right now
and it is cutting into my flying time. Gived me a week or two and we'll see if we can't make this happen. :salute

Thanks for the warm welcome back everyone!! Thanks BigRat for helping me knock the rust off! And I'm flat out amazed at how the squad has progressed in my absence. Having BigRat, Seighin, Ryno, and more working to teach and improve the whole squad it has become a force to be reckoned with. :aok
In short, last time I was here, this was the best place to learn the hog, and they've made it better by 10. :salute

We fly Friday Night Squadron Operations (FSO). As such, we seldom get to fly our specific aircraft in that event (the F4U-1A). We will, when it is available. If other USN aircraft are featured,we go for them. If no USN aircraft are available then it's whatever the C.O. picks.
Below is some F4F fun in the FSO:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUKC1LME1Cw
We still fly the F4U (all variants but focusing primarily on the 1A) in other arenas whenever we get the chance (after-all, we are a dedicated F4U squadron).
