Title: Switch Sides Anytime You Want... for Perks...
Post by: tunnelrat on April 21, 2014, 09:43:38 AM
Why not make it to where you can switch sides for free every 12 hours, or anytime you want for say... 25 perks... just pop up a window "Do you want to spend Fighter, Bomber, or Vehicle perks?"  Click button, boom, switched.

I believe it would lead to spying. 25 perks is nothing.

If 25 perks meant nothing to everyone you'd see swarms of dash 4`s and C hogs running about.

A big minus one unless the perk coast is ten times the number of people in the arena.

There is no need for that...spending perks...    It could be fixed without going there.   That said, I am for anything that dumps this counterproductive 12-hour rule, particularly off-peak.

The reason we need Sideswitch Reduction in off peak is partly the above.  Way too many unopposed perk farmers in the late hours because guys are all stuck on one side...   No fun.

This is true.  Also, if you ever see me in bombers, I am bored beyond belief but don't want to log off.  Usually I'll do something as dumb as knocking out the radar at as many bases as possible or something along that matter (mostly in B-17s).  That typically happens when I can't find what I consider a "good fight."

Why would it need to be that high?

Because like many other players these days he's terrified of spiez discovering his super secret missions because then he might actually have to engage in cartoon combat with his cartoon plane in this cartoon dogfighting game.

Just allow switching to the low population side any time, no charge.  Keep 12 hour rule for switching to either of the other two teams.

Why would it need to be that high?

Kind if like taking out a 262.  There can be an advantage to selecting your country.  The more people the less its needed. Ten times is high.   That was a bit drastic.  I would buy into even three to four times the number of people in the arena.

I still think two countries would even be better till the number of players come back up.

I think we should just keep the 12 hour rule. Just pick a country and stay there. This way it's more fun. U shot a guy down and made his wife a widow then next u end up seeing him the next flight on ur country. Lol it's just unrealistic.

I am sorry but this is a game...not realistic in any way...the 12 hr rule is no good for people who are not chess piece..."loyal"....

the 12 hour rule has to go....especially late at night eastern time.

The thing keeping me from ever switching sides is the idea of being stuck on a team I don't like for an entire day. I think the perk price idea could be good, but I think the best solution is to let players be able to even out the teams.

How we have evolved from our selfless promises to Hitech years ago to help the game.

1. - I only want to switch to the low number side to help out, and I'm only in it to samurai myself into the largest red darbar I can find for the oppressed low numbers guys. Que to a glint of heavenly sparkle from the AH fighter saint's pearly whites when he smiles for the cameras.

2. - Now today it's, Hitech you sorry s.@.b. give me what I want or else.

I guess the honeymoon is finally over, and the judge is hearing some real "cow stuff" from the lawyer.

Example (perk costs are just an example placeholder):
12 hour is the default.  To switch sides earlier will cost the player 100 perks.  At this point the player can either wait 11 hours to switch back or pay another perk cost to switch after their hour has passed.  The perk cost goes up with each subsequent side change within those 12 hours, after 12 hours it resets.  The increase in perks is to keep players from trying to abuse the system.

Would the price go down as your hours get lower?
For example 6 hours being 50 perks.. etc?

Otherwise, I support this  :aok

Simple solution has been suggested many times, allow any player to switch sides to the lowest number side at any time.  To switch to either of the higher number sides 12 hour rule.  Simple button on the kneeboard to switch to the country with the fewest numbers, press here.

Traveler,

If all of the vile posts since last year had been for exactly that, and nothing else sans the vileness. It may have happened. Long time ago Hitech made a response to wishes with the concept of wishing for something to benefit the whole community and not just the desires of the OP or a minority group.

In 12 years I've gotten only a single wish granted. The updated target command. I hope it has benefited everyone as it has my efforts to create gunsights.

There still is a way to game side switching to only the lowest number side. Put together a flying circus of like minded who want to affect something in a country they can't switch to. Have some or all switch to the low number side to change the side they really want to the low number side. Then switch again. Not perfect but, simpler to figure out than 8th grade algebra. And then Hitech would have to impose a time penalty on you after you jump to the low numbers side. And the vileness would start back up in these forums.

Not sure why you feel the need to categorize people posting on the subject of side switching as vile, or why it appears that you feel a need to overly complicate a simple approach to the side switching issue.
Iím sure Hitech and company could figure out a way to employ a side switching routine that would improve the game play of off hours players.
Leave the existing side switching routine in place , currently the player gets to pic the side/country they wish to switch to with the existing 12 hour restriction.  Just add a side switching button on the kneeboard that when pushed, automatically placed the person pushing the button, on the side/country with the lowest numbers, no restriction.

How could I not see such a perfect solution before. Maybe because if a person is on the low number side for 12 hours, he can switch to the hi side, and then immediately switch back because you can always change to the low number side per your idea. Most people may have a problem with that concept.

Seems like a simple alternate way of handling it is available:  The minimum wait to switch is one (or insert some number lower than 12) hour(s).  Going to a more populated side is 12 hours.  Eliminates popping in to find a CV or outing a NOE mission or whatever spying would be enabled due to no time limit changes.

I'm probably missing some reason that won't work.

we had the one hour switch time before for a few years.  we took advantage of it, lots of us.  the 1 hour rule was meant to help balanced the sides, most of us used it to "get more kills".  It was pretty obvious during the time when a country was about to "win the war", they would almost always have an influx of players the last hour or two.

I totally understand why people want the time to switch late at night, I used to switch pretty often back then as the fights would start up and die pretty fast.  but 1/2 the time I would get stuck on a country that i thought had a fight but was just an unopposed base take.

perhaps it would help if each country would have its own color on the "darbar".  that way you wont waste your daily switch and could tell if there was actually a fight or an unopposed base take.  it wont affect anything as the two involved countries can already see "how many" of each are involved in that fight.

I guess I figure when one chess piece is in the position to win the war, they probably aren't the lowest populated side, so people couldn't jump there any sooner than they do now if that was left at 12 and going to the least populated was shortened.

I understand HiTech's viewpoint on the matter. At least it helped clarify where he stands and why. If no one else, I appreciate HiTech sticking his neck out to respond to the wolves on the forums.

The community for years has been asking for the sideswitch time to be downed to lower numbers. Wolves snarling at the front door of HTC to give them the meat they want (lowered time limit). HTC is in a rough spot. If they give the wolves the meat, his front porch smells. (Very bad reprocussions of a lower side switch time, from spies to CV's being 'mysteriously hijacked/killed'.)   But if he doesn't, he is called the bad guy.

I would if HTC would consider 6 hours for side switch time, but 12 hours on a side before you can claim 'war da win' perks?  Although, the reward perks really isn't anything to get all hyped about.

See Rule #4

I disagree.

If he changes the 12 hour rule, those who think that 'spiez are among us' will cry out and some will leave.  Others will abuse the lower switch time settings by finding the CVs and things of that nature.

Like I said before, he is in the hot seat, and no matter what decision he takes, he loses on one front.  I think it would be beneficial for the members of the BBS to keep giving out ideas (like the perk idea, the original topic of this thread), and give HTC some ways of handling this.  There is a way to handle it, without making the cons outweigh the pros. We just need to find it.

We had the 1h rule for many years.  And when it was finally changed 'back' to 12h, the cries of "spiez" never became less at all. HT could change it to 30 days and they would be still on the same level...  :old:

Heck, HTC could make it so your account was locked to 1 side and they'd still cry out "spiez". There could be 3 players in this game, 1 on each side, and all three would still accuse the others of hacking and spying!  :rofl

I played during the time we had the 1H rule. I agree, that the spies accusations wouldn't decrease. I think it is ultimately the character of the players that is in question when HTC thinks on the 12 hour rule. "Can I trust that they wouldn't abuse this by switching sides and gathering intelligence"? Players like ManaWar, who I witnessed because he couldn't convince a higher ranked member to give him control of the CV, he purposefully gave away it's position yelling over VOX the whole time, and when enemy bombers came up to destroy the CV he did nothing to stop it (was the only 5'in on the cv active, that he was occupying).   If you look at some of the posts on the BBS, many members of this BBS have bad blood with each other. Egos are high and mighty, some I wouldn't put past that they may switch sides and abuse the system (if it was lowered).

I may be wrong, and there is an entirely different reason behind HTC's decision. However, nagging for it over and over (even though I am a supporter for a lower side switch time) will get us no where.

wait.. from what I gather from reading it, someone mentioned the "switch to lowest side at will" idea, hitech said no, because you could be on the lowest, switch to highest, and switch back to lowest immediately, and that is a problem.

so I suggested, if people switch to a higher side, they get stuck there for x hours as they do right now.. hitech said, ok, x = 12 hours. I don't see a problem with that..

all any of us side switch time whiners want (well, me at least) is a way to get from a high side to the low side in less than 12 hours, because as it is, either mega squads or country loyalty in general has individual countries populations swinging quite predictably.. I'd like to not be part of the problem, and its horning into the times I'd like to play the game. (if I switch to low side outside of US primetime, I'm getting stuck on a high # country during primetime).. I don't even know what players outside of north America need to deal with, I can only assume its even more annoying.

anyway even the "switch to lowest anytime" could reasonably be "switch to the lowest every hour or two" I think, since the primary concern seems to be CV spying. keep the war win perks at 12 hours, etc. (I don't think anyone wishing to switch countries more often is concerned with war win perks anyway)

also FWIW, since this is wishlist, don't have CV's count as fields towards war win, that would greatly reduce the cv hiding/spying concern.  (other related wish)

I would if HTC would consider 6 hours for side switch time, but 12 hours on a side before you can claim 'war da win' perks?  Although, the reward perks really isn't anything to get all hyped about.

This is very close to my opinion, including the 6 hour, I do not know for sure if 6 hours works as well as 12, but I do know from stats, 1 hour  does not work well. Most people assume that the limit was raised do to "spying issues". It was nothing to do with it. It is a simple fact that our stats show less of country imbalances with 12 hour vs 1 hour time limits with 1 hour the countries seem to always be out of balance. And the swings are constantly moving to different countries. With 12 hours the % of the swings are a lot less and the frequency of swings are less frequent.

I also understand the desire to be able to fly in the morning on week ends, and change again flying in the evening. And I have no problem with that concept. But I am also fairly sure that changing to 6 hours would have 0 impact on the amount of complaints and we would still have the same amount of kn-ashing of teeth for 1 hour, even though I know 1 hour creates greater country imbalance vs longer.

So things may or may not change in the future, but things will not change to any thing close to 1 hour. The value chosen is base on the damping effect of oscillation do to players changing side along and with desire to keep the time long enough that an immediate change and change back can not be used for a strategic advantage.

Are the stats for both 12h and 1h coming from the same single LW arena setup?

You see me somewhat surprised, as I see most MA pilots being quite country loyal and not hopping back & forth between countries... only a selected minority

Just allow switching to the low population side any time, no charge.  Keep 12 hour rule for switching to either of the other two teams.

I think this would be fine if we tweak it a little bit.

Instead of low pop side switch at any time, let's make it. You can switch there without using your '12 hour rule'. But must stay there.. 2-3 hours before switching again (and switching again would use your 12 hour timer, so your stuck there until your 2-3 hour timer is done).   Because of what HiTech said.

Can't you put anything productive besides complaints of others debating on topic?

Giving him material or ideas to work with is something that will assist him in 'fixing' this, and making it so these posts don't show up anymore. Whining for people to 'stop' does nothing.

Nothing to FIX...HT said why he did it .....case closed....dead horse dead......he got the data and said he feels this the right thing to do. How many WHINE threads have there been in the last month about the 12 hour rule....5, 10, 15 and soon there will be 10-15 more threads about this subject because people won't read what HT said. Another concept worth thinking about is what truly defines "Low Numbered Side".  If the sides are 74 bish 75 rooks, 75 knights is bish really the low numbered side?  To me those sides are even.  If it was ever to be explored for players to be able to rebalance to low number side, a reasonable algorithm to determine if a side qualifies as low numbered side should be formulated.  To me it should somewhat be like if Side 1/(side2 + side3) <= 0.29, Side 1="Low Numbered Side".

what we need is something that auto kicks people who are afk.. sometimes it shows the arena has 150 people and yet only 50 are flying, 50 are GVing and 50 are afk.

1/3rd in tower is about a standard value. That doesn't mean they are afk - most of them are watching the map to chose their next sortie location, planning missions with their squad, selecting loadout in hangar and so on. Maybe it's different for you, but I for one are not flying sorties non stop. I probably spend more than 50% of my time in tower, often watching the map to identify possible bomber missions on dar.

And by the way, the number of players in GV seems to be almost traditionally being overestimated most of the time. CraterMa is probably the only map getting anywhere close of this number.

That's the other half of it.  Somebody afk in the tower should not count.  But what constitutes "afk"?  10 minutes of zero mouse movement? 30 minutes?  30 minutes without taking off?

If you fly US late night exclusively, I feel your pain bro.  If you fly during US Primetime, you are being a primadonna because despite there being historically low numbers, there are still fights to be had most, keyword, most nights.  Late night when the herd thins out and you can't find a fight, it's logging time since switching sides is out of the question.

You aren't trying to do something beneficial for the community at large, only to do something for a small, selfish piece of it who feel they are entitled for some reason. So you don't like the rule, quit if after the first wish it is not acted on by the owners to your satisfaction. Friggin board spamming terror attacks haven't worked, give it a rest for a while. Honestly, what nonsense! I do hope hitech does bring out the locks and ban hammers soon for all of us who keep these posts going, it would be worth not having to see this same banality over and over. I bet change would have been much better served with humilty, patience, and understanding.

:uhoh the kewl kidz are gonna get me now...

I'm not one for purse fights, so your wrong there :)

I only said that to him because most of his posts are 'shut up' ' stop whining' etc. Why bother posting that when it won't do the discussion any good and risk it getting derailed? At least post something relevant to the topic. The latter is picking a side, the former is simply voicing your opinion, yes, but provoking fights rather than discussion.

Sir, when I was playing from 2008-2010 or so we had one hour switches. The numbers may have swung wildly, but I did not consider it a problem particularly as a player. From my perspective it was better than the fight-finding and socializing issues caused by the 12 hour rule. Is there some technical hosting issue created by swings in player numbers that I'm not seeing?

So things may or may not change in the future, but things will not change to any thing close to 1 hour. The value chosen is base on the damping effect of oscillation do to players changing side along and with desire to keep the time long enough that an immediate change and change back can not be used for a strategic advantage.
HiTech

Because it seems the 12 hour rule is not going away, I have chosen to bite the bullet and get a second account. By paying $30 a month instead of $15, I could theoretically have all the strategic advantage I want, I could hop in the air for whatever country is about to win to gain perks, spy out missions, etc. That is not the point, of course. Most of it is simply wanting to be able to fly with whoever I want whenever they come on, a practice which makes you feel more like this is a community with a shared passion instead of actual enemies fighting a war, a good thing IMO. Used to be easy and free, but I am willing to pay for the privilege, rather than limit my pleasure in the game in a futile protest. *Shrug*

I am frankly considering doing the same thing, but not sure it is in the budget...

I did this for a very long time, believe it or not I had a second account for a few years, one of the biggest problems was getting into the split arenas back then, I would fly on my account and keep an eye on the arenas with my other one, when I could get in I did.
I generally kept the second account for my niece and nephew who always liked zipping around with a zipcode. Now I will probably just wait until my cash flow increases so I can get another account now.

Way I figure it, this allows me two side switches a day, when I get on around 1-4pm and there are little fights on, I can at least be on two sides. $30 don't seem bad especially when I killed $90 in rum at some bar in tampa this weekend.

Dude...you got ripped off. $90 worth of rum ought to be enough to kill *you*. Damned bars and their price gouging...
