Very nice river.  I wonder how long it will be after release before some M18 driver finds out how well M18s don't float.  :p

Would a PT Boat be able to navigate that?

pretty impressive that top screen shot showing only 36098 tri's....

question...are your trees and shrubbery gonna be bill boarding?

personally I never cared about the graphics in AH...still don't...but I have to admit....I am very much looking forward the the updated terrain.... :rock

Another question is will there be shallow points on the river where vehicles would be able to ford?

The tree tries are counted differently.

They use 979262 tries per frame.  Note that includes all draws of the tries including shadows and reflection requiring multiple passes

A bridge leading to town!  What a fantastic choke point to create an epic tank (or combined arms) battle over an actual strategic objective.  Imagine that!

Will the bridge be destructible?

Looking VERY good HTC.

The screen capture of the airfield, village and river. I suppose like a preview aerial view of a similar construct from an earlier film, is a working sandbox only. So Hitech can create and tune all of his new objects before going to beta or production with what we will really be getting.

The bridge looks like its in the upper right hand corner, while the river, acting like a natural barrier, loops down and around the airfield and village. So the GV spawns logically would all be out side of the river forcing GVers to either bottle neck at bridges or bring LVTs. Waffle was kind enough to suggest this. Wonder if we might get some kind of portable bridge with the new release since LVTs are no match for tanks.

Nice airfield layout by the way.

destroying the bridge does create a choke point....think of all the GVs caught in one place waiting to cross when BOOM! no more bridge....a single 1000 lb bomb kills many before they can escape.  just my $.02

I think I see another bridge in the shot.  2nd shot, middle of the screen, lower part.  There appears to be a 3rd bridge on the R side, middle as well.  Even if those bridges are destroyed, you can still get to base.  Just have to take a scenic route. :D

Oh how I HOPE for Artillery, mobile and/or stationary. :x  I hope we are able to use "Land Mode" for it as well, but having someone spot would work nicely too! :x

It's not just you, but it's worth noting that the video settings seem to be way down. The resolution is quite low (lower than what I usually run) and there is not anti-aliasing enabled. This leads me to believe that texture sizes are limited as well?

Love the new bridges and rivers/ river banks. Moving GV choke points away from the SPs can only be a good thing IMO. The emphasis on spawn camping in AH is always what has put me off trying GVs in the past.

I also really like the new terrain palette, it is a lot more muted and realistic looking than the current predominately acid green colour.

I won't ask about marketing, enough said.

I will ask about computers. I see the frame well above 100. What kind of minimum standards will I need on my computer to make this happen? My limited technical knowledge tells me I will need a new monitor that allows a higher framerate. And, I presume I can simply update my video card if needed. Will I need a new motherboard?

105 isn't the frame rate, it's milliseconds per frame, so running at just under 10 fps.  But please correct me if I'm wrong.

So am I, but that is what would have happened in RL too. This at least gives the opposition a chance to move into cover positions for a bridge crossing or call up air support. The instant spawn-bang-your dead of the current game is a real turn off for me.

I'm really worrying about by Laptop's Intel HD performance...
Title: Re: 4th of july down by the river.
Post by: Greebo on July 06, 2014, 03:53:21 AM
I'd have thought that at this stage you would not be able to tell much about the final framerate. Once all the debugging code gets removed and we see some screenshots from the POV of aircraft and GVs moving around in the terrain then the FPS shown will have more meaning.

The new engine should make better use of the graphics card's currently unused shader feature to reduce load on the CPU and is meant to be more efficient as well. So it isn't necessarily the case that the new version will have worse performance than the old version even on an Intel based laptop. So long that is that the Intel card used is recent enough that it supports Shader 3.0.

HiTech's development computer has an NVidia GTX 660 w/2GB of video RAM.  A Core 2 E8400 CPU and 4GB of system memory.

Our baseline video card is the 9800GTX, which Waffle has in his computer.

With a still picture of the river, a question came to mind.  Will the same physics for the large body water be used in such small bodies of water?  I could see where that could potentially look very cool or could be problematic, depending on how much motion there will be.

I guess my question is for the terrain makers, and the most wonderful new things they most certainly will be experimenting with.  I can certainly appreciate the fact that many things beyond simply painting a nice picture is involved.  Thanks for the updade, I am positive that the final product will be more than pleasurable.

So does this mean I can go maxed graphics with my Radeon HD 5770's?  Though I am highly doubting that I'll be able to use any AA.  I use to have AA at max, would hold at 90 FPS, but I can't have it on at all or I'm lucky to get 20. :(

Another thing that I just picked up on, the angles on the terrain surface have seemingly disappeared.  I don't see the mounds (we refer to as berms) with sharp angles that tanks are sometimes hidden behind.

Are my eyes deceiving me, or with the increase of vertices, these angles have been decreased and make for a more rounded and natural looking terrain?

Are my eyes deceiving me or am I seeing an honest to goodness road net even outside the town?

Any chance of making the bridge a capturable objective?  Place a manned gun at either end, and whoever owns the bridge gets the guns.  Could make for some nice "a bridge too far" moments.

Hitech,

Those buildings are so nice. Any chance with some, the ability for a tank to either shoot through the back window and out the front window to ambush another vehicle? Or drive into a ground floor room and shoot out the front windows until a bomb or HE rounds drops the place? Or once a building is destroyed, drive into the rubble to hide?

Unless this field and village is it for the next release, may we see other fields and town\village relationships?

Anyone noticed how more subtle the horizon is now along with the distance perspective disappearing into the haze?
