Title: Alpha Testers Needed
Post by: Skuzzy on August 07, 2014, 10:57:05 AM
We are looking for a few good people to help with our graphics engine development by joining the Alpha test team.

To be clear, alpha testing to not about playing the game.  As a matter of fact, there will be many times you will simply be running programs to test various aspects of the new engine.  It really is not fun to do.  While it may sound exciting, it really is not.

It requires people to be methodical, and able to follow explicit instructions.  It also requires some time commitment.  It requires a decent knowledge of Windows, your computer hardware, and the ability to troubleshoot on your own.

If you think you fit, then please post in this thread to that effect.  We will be opening a private Alpha forum for those who wish to participate in this phase of our development.

Thank you for the consideration.

If you are accepted into the Alpha test program, a new forum will appear just below the location of the General forum.

I'll give it a go.

Are you providing the debug and memory monitoring, or do we have to set that up ourselves? Will you want BSOD dumps first, or have you a 3rd party we send those to? I suspect you won't release your AH specific symbols for running in Windbg or want us to do that. Or will this simply be crashing our PC to produce logs to ship back to you, to make sure your code is accounting for the broadest spectrum of configurations possible?

Have lots of time to help with this, I've been subbing without playing for the last year+ waiting for this day - news of Alpha or Beta.

I've got 3 PC's, one older HTPC with an early i7 and 5770 video, i7 3930 w/2 680 in sli, i7 3930 w/ 780ti and 4k Asus monitor inbound this week.  I too like others ran 3 screens, but am back to 144hz single and the new 4k monitor once it gets here.  If needed I can pick up another 144hz 24" and go back to 3 screen for testing purposes.  I also have an Asus gaming PC that is about 6 months old and current tech so far as vid display and cpu/drives.

Picked or not, this is great news, again, I've been waiting to see the news light up with a new post announcing progress like this.  Can't wait until the day the beta arena opens.

Happy to help. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T530. Specs as follows:

Intel i3 3110M - 2.90 gHz
8 GB DDR3 RAM
Intel HD 4000 graphics

Not the best, but I figure you want a range to test. I run the existing game with bump mapping, slight shadows, high res texture pack, detailed water/land. I get about 25-30fps most of the time.

One question: will it be playing in the same arenas as everyone else, just with different graphics?

well they dont know what they are missing...
for example they would have a BA with degrees from computer science and software engineering & MBA in management of IT technologies
who is currently leading team of 30 people including 8 software test engineers to work for them for free as a beta tester... but than again its their project.

A lot of the criteria was filled by the posting history, of the person, on this board.  It was a first come, first serve basis.  Once we filled the slots, we stopped looking.

It does not preclude exclusion as we progress through the various stages of Alpha testing.

Lots of testing experience and tech support long ago with kesmai games (Air Warrior) I have the T-Shirt.  Also tech support for several ISPs back when we had ISPs and AOL.  Beta test experience with World of Warcraft. Retired Air Force Officer accustomed to running checklists and following procedures.  Since I am retired, I have lots of time to do what ever I want to do and I play games.

I'm not good.... but I'm game.
I'm retired,
I know how to Alpha/beta test and I realize I'm there to test and not to "play"
Good at finding bugs and submitting bug reports
I can keep my mouth shut NDA-wise
I've spent the last 2 years testing a flight "game" though they ignored my suggestions and suggestions to add at least a LITTLE realism.   :old:

If you're still accepting testers, I am available everyday from 4:00pm to 6:30am EST on Weekdays and Anytime on Weekends. I'd love to help out this simulator and community in any way possible! From what Skuzzy has said things are not optimized yet so they are not sure what the FR will be for what settings.

Guys, let's keep this topic on course.

We do not give out dates.  We set goals, we reach them, and we release.  We have been posting Alpha news, fairly regularly to keep people informed as to what we have been doing, and will continue to do so, when we have something to show.

We are looking for the next group of Alpha testers.

As part of the Alpha test team, you will be asked to test all versions released during the closed Alpha period.  The tasks may range from simply trying one thing, to full blown feature testing.

This is not a fun task.  It is not "playing the game".  It is quite boring, actually.

We had several players who signed up before, but never actually did anything.  We had some players who could not stop making suggestions for improving things.  Those types of issues are a distraction to the goal of an Alpha.  Alpha testing is all about following instructions and reporting results.

You need to have an active game account.  You need to commit to visiting the Alpha test forum, on the bulletin board, at least once a day.  Now, we know real life happens and we are cognizant of that.

Not everyone who wants to help will be allowed in the Alpha test group.  We will look at your previous interaction on the bulletin board and the game as well to give us a feel for your general attitude and communications abilities.

If you are accepted to the Alpha test team, you will see a new forum appear in the list (Alpha Graphics Engine Test).  Simply wander in.  There will be a post you will need to respond to in that forum.  If you do not respond within a week of being added to the forum, we will assume you changed your mind and we will remove you from the test group.

While we could notify you, this is just the start of a simple test to see if you can follow instructions.  If you fail here, then you would not make it in the Alpha group anyway.

I'm completely happy to test.

What I need is Ink, Molsman and a few other notable types to get in from of my A5 while I range in the new 20 mike mikes. They will need to fly highly perked planes, go slow and avoid rapid movements. I need the perks from all the 262s Ive augered.

Where do I sign up?

I would like to apply because I have a lot of free time and love this game. I play on a Lenovo g50-45 AMD A8-6410 (quad core 2gh APU) with integrated AMD Radeon™ R5 M230 2GB 3D graphics, and 6gb ram. My rig is a $450 (I got it on sale for $300) laptop that I figure would help you because it's a lower end laptop which you might expect a collage kid or teenager to have.

I have it hooked up to a acer 23" 1920X1080 display with my extreme 3d pro, Coolermaster storm keyboard and mouse hooked up too.
