Would be a bust just like in Warbirds, but what the heck?

You were never an Air Warrior. Gangbusters there (until it went full realism and the RR regulars had a hissy).  ;)

It's just a wish list thread. Two models of jets, a terrain. Imagine it fun. ;)

It didnt seem all that popular in AW compared to the European and Pacific theaters

Well they were going to do one right after they finished Spanish Civil War, but LunaticFridge put his foot down and said no more arenas!

While the jets would be cool and you can sign me up for the mig it would end up being a battle of the blackouts for most players.

Not knocking it as I remember flying them in the past and it was fun, except for those poor F86 guys. :ahand

That's how I remember it.  But FR Korea did have a small - but dedicated - group of fans.

OTOH, I understand that there are other jet games out there, so somehow they've figured out the blackout issue.

It was RR. There were no blackouts until it went FR. That was when the Smoke Over the Yalu scenario was being designed. Then their dedication wavered. Lots of creative skinning for that event. B-17s skinned as B-29s. P-47s skinned as Yaks. Wish I'd kept some screenshots.

I vote YES to Korean arena...right after we get 400+ players online at one time - better yet 800+ like the old days.   ;)

Agreed.   Things are already diluted enough.

No sim out of the box has even attempted to properly cover Korea since Rowan's outstanding MiG Alley. But both generations of Third Wire's Strike Fighters series had extensive free user mod packages that allow building one hell of a great Korean air war environment with nearly every conceivable aircraft flown during the war being available for AI and most of them being flyable, too. I would love to see a dedicated Korean air war sim focused on air-to-air combat with high fidelity flight and damage models similar to Aces High, but it clearly isn't going to happen anytime soon, if ever.

In our ever so small niche of PC air combat simulation, WW2 is by far the bread winner for developers. After that, modern jets sell the best. All the great generations in between are left behind :( At least WW1 still gets some love periodically.

In the mean time, DCS World has the F-86F, MiG-15bis, and P-51D. It just needs a terrain map and a ton of ground objects and AI aircraft to make it work half decent.

I saw a super high fidelity game with Korean War jets fighting.    Someone posted it here.    It was quite amazing.

Allow free arenas with jets if someone wants them, but again, we need critical mass in the Melee more than another arena.

What if the 3-country chess piece Open Melee format is played out after 20 years and will never reach critical mass again?

20 years.

Well you could rename them as A B C and get another 20 yrs! :)

It is, but replacing it with another three-sided arena using different planes won't solve the issue, IMHO.

Nope.  It might require a bit more out-of-the-box thinking than that.

You've obviously never played Mig Alley (https://www.myabandonware.com/game/mig-alley-a77)! Awesome game! TONNES of community updates and mods. Some still fly it today!

And the F-82 Twin Mustang, La-9, F-94 Starfire, Hawker Sea Fury, F-84, F9F, P-80, A-26, F9F, B-47, C-46 Commando, Dh-100, Douglas A-1, F7F, La-11, Il-10, F-94, F2H Banshee, A-2 Savage, B-45 Tornado, F-89, Tu-2, Yak-18, and the T-33 Shooting Star.

Lots of burbs to fly. :x

I was referring to what we have on hand primarily.

I don’t think we will see FMs for any of those others.   Il-2 can be a substitute along with a Spit or two and the La-7 maybe...   Tu-2 is available.

B-47 never saw combat in Korea so that’s out along with a number of those on your list in the same boat.  :(

I remember back in the AW training arena one night Silat and I were switching the Korean training arena from RR to FR and back. They couldn't figure out what was happening! Fun times!

I have owned MiG Alley since before Rowan went under and released the source code. The BDG made a few basic patches to improve stability and add TrackIR, but it never got the improvements they did for Battle of Britain that became Battle of Britain 2. Playing MiG Alley in this day and age is like going back to Jane's games... way too old. SFP1's original Korean War addon far surpassed what I could do with MiG Alley, so I gave it up a long time ago. SF2 still has active modder development with 3d aircraft models and textures that match the best payware in many cases. The SF2 KAW (Korean Air War) mod for SF2 is extensive. You can fly carrier based missions with the F4U-4, F9F, AD2, F2H-2, etc. I personally prefer flying the F2H-2, which is a rare bird in combat flight sims. My problem with SF2 is that the core engine ceased development 10 years ago. The biggest hole in the SF2 engine was the terrain, which looked dated in 2003 (little better than MiG Alley). User mods can only do so much with texturing.

A Korean War sim with a modern graphics engine, realistic physics, VR support, dynamic campaigns and multiplayer is what I want. MiG Alley isn't it, SF2 is a lot closer, DCS World is heading in that direction, but it is amazing that MiG Alley is 20 years old yet remains the only decent, dedicated Korean War themed air combat simulator released since that time.
