Aces High won't keep players, new or otherwise, as long as this persists. Another thing I have noticed is that having three teams, with usually less than 30 players each, playing on huge maps. The two teams with the most players will gang up and split the third team until they score enough fields from that team to win before turning on each other.when both enemies have 20+% of your fields, it is nearly impossible to come back to win the map.
The game needs to drop to TWO TEAMS until such time that there are enough players on a consistent basis to warrant 3 teams again. Also, Where are the features that will keep the old players as well as bring in the new ones? We haven't seen a new plane in years. 90% of the players in this game are over 40. Many even older. Many cannot or will not buy new computers to keep up with the latest graphics advancements. Many cannot and will not buy VR equipment, or even rudder pedals which gives others with those things a definite advantage. Add to that the discrepancy of what planes are perked, and which aren't, is a joke.
I have put up with this for about as long as I care to. Something has got to change. If it doesn't, I will have no other choice than to leave what used to be a great game, with great people.

I come to this game for the fun of chatting as much as actual game play. The game itself has degraded into a smack talking, name calling horde fest, that with less than a hundred players on at any given time, has detracted from my enjoyment of playing.
You come to the game for the chat as much as the actual gameplay yet you abuse another player enough to lose the ability to chat. As unaccustomed as I am to agree with FLS, he is right, it is an indicator that you need to relax.
Constantly having to defend one's self from the constant badgering and belittling from a few players who believe that if you don't play the game Their Way, you are a coward, gay, Communist, socialist and worse.
I am going to read between the lines here and make an assumption that the badgering and belittling was precipitated by you running from a fight in a pusillanimous manner. Maybe if you came to fight as much as you came to chat they would not have used harsh words against you.
There is a reason there are virtually no new players that stick around. Nobody wants to help them learn (although I have seen this change over the last month)…………..Aces High won't keep players, new or otherwise, as long as this persists.So, your opinion is that new players are not staying due to verbal abuse. New players are lasting less than 30 minutes. I do not think that is enough time for them to get abused. My money is on the fact that the UI is complex and even getting in the fight is a bridge too far for a new player.
As far as the older players. My opinion is they left because the game changed from fights to chases. It is IMO a big problem with the current gameplay. I am not sure there is much anyone can do about that, pusillanimous squads are living amongst us and it is their choice.
Many of us have said this for a while. The consensus appears to be that Hitech will not entertain the idea of 2 sides so no point getting uptight about it.

I think more mods and with them being harder on the over the top stuff. A reminder to calm down, and then mute if they dont. I think we have been able to get away with too much for too long and the internet mentality of bullying just adds up to toxic issues. Time to reign them in a bit. Some people are doing it just to piss players and is the only reason they are in the game.

The ability to opt out is already a function in this game: Don't tune to channel 200. That doesn't solve the problem. I don't know if deleting the ability to chat cross country will work, but other than disabling the ability of those who are offensive, (as has been done to me), I don't see any other way to fix this. People aren't going to police themselves.
Maybe it is me. Maybe I bring out the worst in other players. Maybe if I stopped playing for a while, everything would be great and happy...but I don't think so.

It is my observation that that people who wish to pin the blame on those that point out a problem, are probably the ones who bully and antagonize them to begin with.
If you play for any amount of time, you would see for yourself how people are singled out and ganged up on. It isn't just me, but it is the same people doing the bullying over and over.

I was never on channel 200, and still got abusive PMs from internet tough guys, so I think this is a great idea. It was the primary reason I left the game, and would probably persuade me to come back. There's nothing like having a grown adult meltdown like a three year old and constantly stalk you in PMs. It kinda ruins the game. As for the OP, good riddance. Your actions are a major part of what has been ruining this game.

I meant in terms of tuning out problematic individuals as opposed to the entire place going silent because people can't handle interacting with people.

I also work away from home for four weeks at a time without being able to play so that keeps the game a bit fresher. The people I see that seem to be the worse on 200 or raging are the ones that are constantly playing all day every day. Short breaks here and there help quite a bit.

If I may speak to my experience as a noob to Aces High III as it relates to the subject matter in this thread.
I discovered AH about 6 months ago, started playing regularly about 3 months ago. I'll just bullet point for short read.
1.) Definitely it is NOT the UI that chases away newbies. Fact is, the UI is very user friendly, self explanatory and easy to navigate. (2 thumbs way up Dale👍👍). It takes some rabbit holing just to find Aces High to begin with so I feel any new player to come in will be a fan of flight sims/dogfighting. Pure and simple it is because 1.) Every member of the playing community has 10+yrs on this game, still play AH because they love it passionately and are expert++ skill level. I can testify by experience that even a top ace from another game will and does get thrashed every time he is in the air. It is like getting in the ring with Mike Tyson. Fly 10 min and get shot down instantly when engaging an enemy. EVERY TIME.. Its nobody's fault and another thing, you don't know if the guy you are engaging is a noob or veteran. All you know is it's a yak, or 109, or spit.. Look at what happened (and still happens) to me.
Getting your bellybutton kicked is hard to stomach. When every tactic you try, every plane you fly, vehicle, field gun, whatever you choose will end up being a 1 to 3 hour session of traveling to instant death at the hands of everybody. How long would you play knowing that? Would you Pay $15 to be beaten into submission? With the HO's, Double teams by the perpetual Altitude potatods (hoards), The "hey, follow me to my CV, field, town so my ACK can shoot ya down for me", The guy that Vultches you from the tank thats parked behind the spot where your plane spawns or from above by the Orbiting Spawn Camper.
Thats why noobs run away. It happens to all great games. The community eventually widdles down to about 10% of its peak and that 10% is the truly dedicated diehards.
As for the age demographic in Aces High being mostly over 40. I think it is a flying thing, younger kids haven't the maturity or situational awareness to envision and implement successful tactics.
Lastly, trash talking, belittling, bullying ect. Ect... I will speak brutally honest about this. First I flew with the Rooks for a month, then the Knights for a month, then back to Rooks to join BT's. I never once, not a single occasion did I experience any negativity, bullying by anybody. Not once. I play 3 to 6 hours a day, everyday. Every player i ran into was very very friendly, patient and willing to help when asked. Fact is, I am guilty of sending messages on occasion like "Weak Sauce supersweetheart!! You need to run and hide under mommy's CV skirt so she can shoot me down for you" or "👍👍 Way to go Capt. Kantfight! Good job avoiding the 3 enemy fighters at your alt while you dive past them to Vultch me and Bline to land the kill"..
also, I have not witnessed any of said trash talking you mention in the Melee Arena.

The UI is terrible for a new player. Glad you made it work for you. That makes you the exception that pppmtdp the rule. I can't tell you how many guys I've seen stuck on the runway or ground-looped off the side firing their guns into thin air. Attempts to help them were in vain and they eventually quit, never to be seen again. Maybe they're from China or something and didn't speak English, I don't know.

I usually use it for laughing about something that happened or saying good fight, but it's been a while. Maybe it would improve things, if the signal to noise ratio is dipping as low as it seems to be.

we already have an optin/out. you have to tune 200 for cross country coms. I like being able to talk cross country, or at least watch. I'd hate to see it stop.
I think more mods and with them being harder on the over the top stuff. A reminder to calm down, and then mute if they dont. I think we have been able to get away with too much for too long and the internet mentality of bullying just adds up to toxic issues. Time to reign them in a bit. Some people are doing it just to piss players and is the only reason they are in the game.

There's a difference between bugging out when you start to get in over your head (or are getting ganged/picked) and just making one [supersonic] pass and hauling as*. The latter was all Rocky knew how to do. He was an EASY kill when I could catch him. I once killed him in a dead run (when he had advantage to start) and pinged his airplane apart over about fifteen minutes, one piece at a time. Weak.
And FWIW, my FPH can, did, and does whip you any day of the week, any time of year, in whatever ride you choose. I once put you forward as my champion on a lark and you got wrecked. (Standing by for the list of excuses.) I've also taken you on 1 v 1 in Dueling and given you all you can manage, so I am no slouch, and you know it.
I agree that people need thicker skin, but we can all do with a dose of the chill pill before we type on 200 sometimes. Myself included.

I've just never noticed it happen where a habitual trash talker changed much. I admit I do it when the mood strikes me when someone starts up with me or occasionally my side, but I don't believe it does anything to change their attitude except possibly feed their persecution complex even more. I guess what I'm saying is, browbeating people is not a public service. :angel:

I fly nothing like Rocky and you know it. I can beat most people in this game. You just don't see it because I don't fly easy mode planes. You also know firsthand I can give YOU a handful.
I still laugh about that time you took me into the Match Arena to "teach" me how to shake people off my six and I hung with you turn for turn for turn all day long. It has to be some of the funniest film in my collection.
You can justify it all you like. I've already proven to you categorically by your own standards that he is better than you. I will wager $1000 right now that he can beat you in any plane you wish at least five out of nine times--it'll be more than that. Let's ask Dale for permission to set it up in a free arena. Just don't show up with any excuses when you lose.

A. Lifetime stats are meaningless.
B. I don't trust his lifetime 109 kills by me. Seeing as how I had 21K kills but my 2 top performing planes only had 4
7K of those kills. Doesn't make sense.
C. Skyyrs lifetime best planes are the two easiest non perked run away fighters in the game, while mine are in 109s with higher enys and much harder to be successful in due to dive performance, ecceleration, guns, and top speed.
Last time I flew a 190D seriously, I went 66-0 for about half the month. That's how easy that plane is.
This all started because he talked crap about Rocky and now has to ankle hump his FPH because I called him out for doing the same crap he accused Rocky of doing.

So why do you have to call the losing pilot anything? the pilot already feels bad for getting shot down, but you feel the need to egg him/her, or berate them, why? why can't you just something like good fight etc. when I manage to shoot someone down, I don't say anything unless they pm me and start complaining.

How would two players on opposing sides hook up for a quick training session in the TA? How would they meet up for a duel in DA or a private arena? Also that would mean having no cross-country help channel anymore.

So why do you have to call the losing pilot anything? the pilot already feels bad for getting shot down, but you feel the need to egg him/her, or berate them, why? why can't you just something like good fight etc. when I manage to shoot someone down, I don't say anything unless they pm me and start complaining.
It was directed towards getting muted for something as small as that. Not the actual fight itself. Keep up with us I can’t type any slower.

For all it's worth, if you can't take crap talking from another player, perhaps you should find a nice off-line game to play. Basically any online war game is going to have these types of people.
The .report button should relay a message to the Hitech and if it's bad enough should result in a week radio ban, and if continues, a month ban, and if that continues, than a 6 month radio ban.
The key should be to punish the individual for their actions. Not punish the entire community for the actions of a few.

Yeah, but disabling it for all negates the possibility for positive interaction. It seems to me to make way more sense to give the players the tools to deal with the problem people rather than silencing the entire other side. The community is not just the guys on your side.

I wouldn't recommend removing them totally from the game.
They should all be persistently configurable, and off by default, so as not to expose new players to the dysfunctional side of AH too soon.
Chan 200 is already that way. I see no reasonable argument not to make cross country PM follow the same model. At some point, players can decide if they want to wade through the cesspool if they are in to that. It should be an Opt-In choice. Join requests too.
You can seldom go wrong giving the player choices on how to configure their experience.

He also accused me of harassing him out of the game and changing my game ID to hunt him down (skyyr style?) - very bizarre as in the 20+ years I have played AH I have never changed my ID once. I have used the same account since the game came out of beta (1999?).

There's no confusion. It's as derogatory as 'yank' or 'aussie.' Maybe even 'convict' (when it comes to Limeys referring to Aussies). Vulcan calls Fess a Pommy and Fess gets outrageously emotional - downright offended and publicly protests. I get that. I'm sure everyone here, including Vulcan, gets that. I suppose I shouldn't find it amusing .... but I do. I suppose I can keep that amusement to myself, even. Personally, I don't find Fess appealing enough to call him a 'pommy b*st*rd' nor do I find Vulcan endearing enough to call him a 'convict.' I don't hate either enough to do likewise. I'm kinda apathetic. My part in this useless exercise was, well, a useless exercise.

you know about what really bugs me about the game. it's guys that just logging and start whining about why we arent defending this or that base. I dont play often per say, but something I'll play all knight and we defend this base for like 2 or 3 hours and then we get tired or it. and it never fails. some guy will log in and why we arent we defending. always tell them shut up and up a plane and defend it.

Agreed. Benign PMs help sustain and build the AH community.
Is it possible to deny PM privileges to certain people but keep that option open for the rest of us? I can think of two bishops and one knight who are a very substantial percentage of the problem, and if they don't get to PM enemies any more said problem would mostly go away.
