Title: S&H Green stamps
Post by: Bixby on August 07, 2020, 09:11:13 PM
Eagler mentioned  them in another post.

If you know what they are you are old!

Collected them way back when I was a youngster.

Anyone else remember them?  :)

I kind of remember my mom getting those at the store, dont even know if she turned them in.  was actually surprised how fast the cashiers would calculate how many stamps we were given.

Books and books. As the older son, I got the job of lickin' and stickin'. I remember the yellow TV stamps too. We didn't have as many of those though. I don't remember actually redeeming them. Mom must have done that without us.

Oh yes I remember them. Between the gas stations offering glasses good enough to have for a nice dinner table setting and the green stamps having other household items we equipped the kitchen pretty well. Our china also came from gas station "rewards". Keep in mind at that time the price of gas was NORMALLY 18 cents a gallon, and the "gas wars' dropped it down to 15 cents routinely. My Jr and Sr year in HS I worked summer jobs full time and saved as much as possible. I made $5 go for a tank of gas a week along with a quart of oil for my car and paid my own insurance and everything my car needed for the rest of the school year.

Oh man.  I hadn't thought about those in 40 years.

It just kicked a memory cell and I just relived staying with my grandparents for a month in summer and granny took me to Dairy Queen for lunch (I had a Hunger Buster and a Dilly bar ) and then she stopped by the S&H Green Stamp store in Ozona, Texas.

It's amazing how someone could mention a small thing and it unlocks a memory in every little detail of an experience 48 years ago.

Now, if I could only remember where I put my phone down.   :rofl

I remember going to my Grandparents home on Sundays for lunch after church, all the women sat in the kitchen talking about what they were going to do with their "books". The men were outside under the cottonwood trees talking about their latest fishing or hunting trips. My Grandfather would be sitting on the steps, at the back door, watching us kids crank the ice cream churn.....Peach, Strawberry and Banana ice cream!!!!!!!! Now thats a memory!

I love the look into what the ad company thought was a "typical" family home. Did you notice the rack of rifles over the TV?

In the 60s I imagine stuff like that was much more popular. That might get you arrested in some states and situations. :)

We had gun racks in the back windows of our trucks. The same trucks we drove to school.  No issues at all.

The difference now is the people. A lot more low quality individuals out there today. They would break in to your vehicle and steal your guns. You can still carry them, you just have to conceal them in your truck or other vehicle.

My guns at home are in my safes. All except a few around the house for security. My vehicles still have guns in them.... just not in plain sight.

What state has laws against guns in the home? I'm not aware of any.

NY SAFE Act requires firearms be locked in a safe or rendered incapable of firing if there are residents or visitors younger than 16 years old.

Yes, what about it?

First off it was not a complaint but a wistful look back at a time when there were far fewer snowflakes. So unruffle your panties. Second it is wistful because of things like this. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/25/nyregion/ny-gun-owner-laws.html

It's a sad state of affairs IMO. I wish we were back to the old time days. FWIW my senior year in college I took a job as a security guard with a company that had a federal contract for the FED court building in Downtown Tucson. There were some days I had to go to work right after class so wore my nice tan uniform (modeled after the SO uniform because the boss was still working for the SO) complete with LEO style belt and revolver to classes at the University of Arizona in 1975. The weapon was loaded and NO ONE, including the Campus Police, cared including the Deputy that shared one of my classes.

Evidently yours were a little ruffled. All I did was ask a question. Men do not wear those where I am from.

Didn't say a thing about being banned in homes, which is why I posted link to places that require locked storage..... in the home. Also life member patron.
