Just out of curiosity. Has there ever been an FSO that involved tanks?

I want to say that there was, but my memory is getting so I can't remember if it was an FSO, or some other event.

January 2008 "Breaking the Siege" involved tanks. There may be another but I could not find it.

March 2011: 1943: Tunisia - The Verdun of Mediterranean

It had neutral V base that the 2 sides fought to capture with troops.

I remember there being many complaints about forcing squads into GV's.

Yes there was an FSO with tanks,IIRC the tanks came out the second hour.BigRat and I survived our bombing run in A20's so when the tanks came out we fuels up,loaded bombs and off we went to drop eggs on the sitting ducks...errr tanks!

It was a fun night and Bigrat and I often talked about how much fun it really was.

Regarding tanks, the best implementation has been optional second life tank battles, in my opinion. We were given Panzer IV duty in the Tunisia FSO and we did not even make it to the base until when they captured it. Then, because it flipped, the Bishops won the war and the map reset forcing all of FSO out of the arena. What a travesty that entire night was.

Yeah that's the one I mentioned earlier. Could not remember why the map reset, so I did not mention that part.

Plenty of Friday and Sunday Squad Ops featured tanks back in the day.  Some frames had no planes at all.

Possibly the worst match up of all time was one that featured Panzer IVs defending a V-base under attack from M16s and M3s.

There was a surprise outcome btw.

The tanks came forward and blew away all the M16s.  A single M3 escaped by running across the very steep terrain.  Chasing panzers all got stuck, blew up on weird ice mines, or just got lost and bored.   The tank left behind at the base figured it was all over and towered.  M3 came round the mountain, shot out the 2 acks necessary and let troops out.   Win to the underdog!  It happens.

That one was never repeated for lots of obvious causes for complaint.

It would be interesting if there were a scripted AI function in the game that allowed AI tank battles and supply convoys to run during the event. Squads could be tasked with defending friendly and attacking enemy GV's for points in addition to air and vehicle bases.

I asked about that. GV's are not able to be AI.

Do remember a Scenario that had tanks, pretty sure it was El-Alamein. Wasn't to long after the Firefly was introduced.

I remember one years ago, forget the exact setup but it was 2nd hour GVs. I was creeping up a hill, popping targets as they cave into view and popping back down. Got a bunch before Dantoo figured it out and put a painful stop to what was probably my personal best GV run. Not a GV guy but it was fun.

I remember that well LOL.

I kept saying "STOP going up that ridge FFS!"

Everybody that went up the hill exploded, so I came up with a plan where a couple of guys made a lot of engine noise in some dead ground to your front, while I moved quickly to the flank. Figuring you would be focussing on the moment to spring your trap, I whipped round the corner and there you were. Oooch.

You sure left some wreckage on that hill.
