Title: World Cup 2022
Post by: perdue3 on November 21, 2022, 04:55:03 PM
Off to a fun start with a lot of goals, thus far. Very disappointed in the US failing to grab 3 points off Wales. We were clearly the better side and should have scored no less than 3 goals in the first half. Zimmerman with an absolute bonehead challenge in the box on Bale. There was no need to even challenge there, back to the goal was Bale. I still think a point or even three is possible against England.

Lots of good matchups upcoming throughout the week. Germany Japan should be a good one.

Any crazy predictions?

Soccer is way too active for the average American...

We need time for breaks between plays and pitches to catch our breath :)

It was wild. I could not watch it as it was at 4:30 AM here. But, was shocked looking at 2-1 in the 92' when I did wake up. I figured Mexico-Poland would be good and it did not disappoint, Ochoa saving a PK from Lewandowski is a big deal, well done. France cruised to 3 points, as expected.

I am excited to watch the Germany-Japan match tomorrow and Spain-Costa Rica.

I've watched most games so far.  France is the best team I've seen so far.  Fast and dangerous with headers around the goal.

They certainly are. pacey on the edges with Griezmann and Mbappe, with the towering Giroud in the middle. Such a difficult team to break down, too, with the likes of Pavard, Kimpembe, Saliba, Upamecano, Konate, Hernandez, and the list goes on. In the midfield, they are a little lacking with Ngolo Kante out, but still with Rabiot. The crazy thing is, their bench could also beat most countries.

Yep. Germany took their foot off the gas a bit and allowed Japan way too much possession in the second half. That will be a tough group to get out of now. Spain look in the mood.

Swiss with a straightforward 3 points. Uruguay and Sputh Korea has huge implications. How will Sonny do? Darwin Nunez should run rampant, too.

Last match is Brazil, a team full of individuals and arguably the most talented team in the tournament.

Just have to get de Jong going. He can create the final ball, but Bergwijn and Co. have to be finishing. I'd hate to be reliant on the likes of Bergwijn, but such is the situation.

Was a surprise to me how well Maguire played, the US always play well against England so the result wasn't too much of a shock. Personally I would have played Foden not Mount.
Title: Re: World Cup 2022
Post by: perdue3 on November 26, 2022, 08:45:44 AM
We looked the more likely side. I think we outplayed England. Maguire did play well, on a Maguire scale. He still had some instances. If England are to go deep, it will be through my boy Saka. He looks so dangerous with the ball and creates so much going forward. Mount is in poor form so I'm not sure why he started. Southgate likes to stick with his regulars, but Foden would've made more sense.

For the US, we put on subs way too late. Sargent and Aaronson should've been on at the hour mark. Hsve to tidy up the finishing if we are to win a match at this world cup. In a good spot to go through.

Dutch vs. Americans. I don't fear the Dutch like I have in years past, but still a quality side. If the US can't fox some defensive issues and game management issues, it won't be close.

Just reveling in the win and promotion for now! USA!!

Not sure why that is. Some leagues are notably softer than others, LA Liga and  Ligue 1 come to mind. Meanwhile, the Bundesliga will let most things go.

Drank away my pain yesterday  :cry. Honestly, none of those 4 goals should've gone in. Such poor defending from the US. We dominated possession, pressed well, and missed way too many simple chances. Have to put those gifts away. Would've preferred Carter-Vickers to Zimmerman.

Moving forward, Americans should be proud and excited. This is a very young foundation which we will build on. We have the Gold Cup, Copa America, and Confederations Cup leading up to 2026 as the host nation. Plenty of time to put domething special together. It's only forward from here.

Need a top striker and tighten up that back four and it's a solid team.  Players participating in the premier League and champions league experience is helping improve their overall quality.

Very proud of England's performance tonight now onto the France game which should be epic.

Tough exit for the Dutch, you had my support all the way.

Yeah what a slaughter. Messi slamming the ball out of the air with his hands, his team m8 2, a ball shot into the dug out, a questionable penalty mid match, when the Dutch got tackled inside the box nothing happend, two Argentina's headbutting each other, tackling from behind and they got the ball from the ref and lousy sportsmanship (shooting the ball away at the last second when grabbing the ball when there was a trow in ect). Messi and his friend should have gotten yellow for tapping the ball out of the air. And than there was after the match Messi swearing at Weghorst during a interview and sneering at van Gaal. I dont say we played nice but dam it makes you think i would rather lost from the USA than Argentina, you guys played really well and had great sportsmanship. Our players kept on laughing out of disbelieve of what was happening here.

But I did cheer hard when we made 2-2 at the very last second, they really thought they had. Seeing all those depressed faces on the tribunes after seeing them already partying made me smile so hard hehe. I did enjoy the tournament more than i thought i would.

Messi being extremely toxic here:

"For those watching from home, it was easy to miss that, after scoring his second-half penalty, Messi celebrated with his team-mates before walking on his own to the dugouts’ side of the pitch."

"Messi calmly walked in the direction of the Netherlands coaching staff."

"Television cameras caught Messi making a beeline for Davids, while pointing towards the tunnel and moving his thumb and fingers together in a ‘talking’ motion. "

Messi then proceeded to… say exactly what he thought about the referee anyway:

“We were scared before the game because we knew what this was. I think FIFA must think about it, they cannot put a referee like that for these important games, for such a pivotal game — a referee who isn’t up to the task.”

Martinez went even further when he was interviewed by beIN Sports a few moments later. “The referee was giving everything to them. He gave 10 minutes (of second-half stoppage time) for no reason,” he said.

“He gave a free kick outside the box to them two or three times. He just wanted them to score, that’s basically it. So hopefully we don’t have that referee anymore, because he’s useless.”

https://theathletic.com/3987289/2022/12/10/argentina-netherlands-world-cup/

Reading all this makes me think that they are such sore losers.

That entire match was crazy. No way there should not have been a red for the tackle (yellow) and boot (yellow). Messi was an absolute toddler the entire match and post-match. I love Emi Martinez and miss him at my beloved Arsenal, but his antics were too much as well.

Hated to see the Dutch go out in that fashion, but man it was entertaining for the neutrals.

France-England was good, too. I was pleasantly surprised to see Kane blast it over the crossbar with a chance to equalize. Part of me wanted to see England do well, my boy Saka played lights out the entire tournament. Ramsdale should have been in goal despite Pickford keeping Everton up for now. For me, a biased Gooner, Ramsdale is in better form but certainly has his flaws. I think none of them are keeping Giroud out of the back of the net in that match. Am I allowed to miss the super slow Frenchman? :sad

Heading into the semis, I expect a France-Argentina final, again. Although, I am hoping for Croatia-Morocco. I am also starting to miss the Premier League, now that my country is out.

Eagler, do you mean Argentina? It is one of, if not the, most simple game in the world. Get the ball in the net and don't use your hands to do it. But, it is certainly not popular here in the States, so there is some forgiveness.
