Title: 2022 Tournament Of Champion Information.
Post by: fuzeman on January 05, 2023, 05:39:28 PM
We'll close out the 2022 KOTH season with our Tournament Of Champions in SEA II on 21 January 2023 starting at 3 pm ET, 2 pm CT,1 pm MT,12 pm PT, and I think that's 8 pm UTI?
This is an invitation only event but generally I leave CM Eye on as long as it doesn't disrupt the fights.
Going to add all previous TOC winners for this one and we see who comes out on top.
From 2022 we have:
Winners: Eagler, ReddFoxx, Rud3boi, StepSis, tdgShane, trogdor
Wabbits or Kills:  Chewie, HORRIDO1, Lazer, LeonTwnk, Mom, Rascal43, Sawzaw, TC, THRASH99, Violator, Vlkyrie1
And previous TOC winners: 2021 Eagler, 2020 Lazer, 2019 ULDutchieV, 2018 Violator, 2017 JOACH1M, 2016 Thrila, 2015 Krupinski, 2014 Violator, 2013 JOACH1M, 2012 pervert, 2011 ?, 2010 Bruv119, 2009 Kazaa, 2008 Bruv119, 2007 kappa,  2006 BluKitty.

Winner will get three free months of Aces High credited to their account.
Eagler won last year and chose the Bf 109F-4 for our first chariot of battle.

Hope to see as many of you guys as possible that can make it. The more the merrier, and the better the fights.
Plenty of great dogfights to watch in CM Eye also, guaranteed better than either Top Gun movie!!

Concept:
>>>Special Event Rules in effect!!  <<<
All players fly the same plane type
One life without rearms per round, Fight to the death,
Winner of the round chooses the next plane
Repeat until someone wins three rounds,
which do not need to be in a row.
>> Not going with any added wins for previous winners, so three round wins will be enough for victory. <<

Hard to run an event when you can’t sit for an hour or two.

I am going to postpone the TOC. It’s the onetime I use VOX and I’d like to to be able to talk in complete sentences without punctuating it with a sniffle or cough.
The bad chills are gone along with my appetite. I feel warm but only 98 dF but I tend to run a bit lower.

So what’s the next date thats good for most of you. Maybe I should wait for ntil I do feel better without a rebound.

Fuzeman - Hope you feel better soon! No worries about postponing TOC. Take care of yourself and recover. We knuckleheads will be here when you're ready.  ;)

I'd vote for Saturday, February 4th as an alternate date (assuming you're all better by then!).

Only date I can't attend is next weekend, Jan. 28th/29th, but I understand if that date works out best for everyone.

cheers,

It wont be next weekend, that's for sure.
I had rapid covid tests here and used one. Results came back positive.

I hate to hear that, fuzeman.... I'll be checking in with you...(just wish I had read the forum before I went to make it to where I could show up, 🤣 😂 🤣)

Good thoughts and prayers on the way brother!

Hi Fuzeman,
Just checking in to wish you well and a speedy recovery, though I expect you're at about the worst of it right now - if my own experience with covid is any guide.
Hope you're managing as well as you can.
We're all pulling for you.

Time to start cogitating about another date to have this. Every Saturday in February has a scenario starting at 7 pm ET which restricts the planned 3 pm start time.
Sundays are mostly open but of course I'd have to look ahead and see if anything important is happening on them this month.

Even with my defective and once attacked ticker covid wasn't bad but again I was L U C K Y.  Once I find my vaccination card I'm getting boosted. Blah, blah, blah.   :bolt:

Won't be able to make it the weekend of the Daytona 500, should be good other than that. Remember there is the super bowl next Sunday so might be tough to do it then. I'm thinking the 26th might be a good day?

I will try and make this what I am thinking will be the final and last KOTH  - TOC (and  Final KOTH event Aces High will ever have) 😢  is a damn crying 😢 😭 shame!

Unfortunately, it seems like Noone outside of fuzeman has any balls at all to stand up and willingly commit to volunteer to keep this awesome event going!

Is not like I didn't try my best to be a KOTH CM, even with Hitech's and Skuzzy's backing  and support..some just did not want me  becoming a KOTH CM....but that's water under the bridge...

<SNIP>

Fact of the matter is if 20 people showed up for KOTH’s REGULARLY I would still be hosting KOTH.
When less than 10 people show up how can it be considered awesome?
That’s a few guys getting together to dogfight which doesnt need a host.

I was referring to the KOTH event, itself,  as being an awesome long time running event

I, same as you,  do not consider a KOTH event with less than 10 participants (heck, with less than 14 participants) as being an awesome event!

I realize that times have changed, but I am of the opinion that it was much better back when there was an Euro - KOTH event held monthly on a Friday afternoon to accommodate the players in other time zones, to go along with the U.S. - KOTH event held monthly on a Saturday night

and a lot of times, a lot of the participants showed up to participate in both of the Euro & U.S. KOTH events held at their scheduled times...

I would argue the fact that it takes a certain number for KOTH to be fun..

I have had a better time with 5 or 6 than with 10 or 12 depending who makes up the numbers

The more participants the more likely there was one or two players who didn't know the rules, didn't understand the rules or just didn't want to follow them..

The administration of the event around these players decreased the enjoyment of the rest of us as they were dealt with

After all most of these usually boil down to a handful that win them regardless how many show up

I can understand fuzeman being burnt out but it is a death nail for AH if it's allowed to die out imo

Maybe we can set something up not as rigid and more off the cuff

How hard is it to get the admin privileges needed to limit the plane available? Can it be automated?

I would also be for more of an incentive for participating/winning than perks..

I say a free month might get more players to try their hand at it

I got to agree with Eagler.

For me showing up at KOTH is hard as it is, let alone committing to host it monthly at US friendly times. Realising this makes it even more valuable what Fuzeman did for us these years hosting the event.

Last KOTH I noticed Fuze doesn't even fly with us normally but he had a lot of fun joining us.

I think hosting should be easier, maybe HT can setup the arena like the match play arena where we all spawn in at the same time with the selected plane. An automated arena message could keep the score or something. This way Fuzeman can at the very least participate.

Ps: we can all help the new player out. I think it is fun when new faces participate

I got to agree with Eagler.

Upon rereading Eaglers post, i just somewhat agree with Eagler.

I agree with that Koth can be loads of fun with a smal turnout. But i disagree that new players distract from the fun. from there on, i agree with him again. :aok

Are we still looking at the 26th?

You miss understood me Dutch..

I have zero problems with new players..more the better

What increases with more new players is the chance one of them doesn't know the rules, asks the wrong question, lands instead of darts, and other numerous things that would stop the game while the rules are explained to them..

I say ignore the newbies as most are dead within minutes of fights on and only a few if any of the newbies make it to the end of a KOTH

Fuzeman does a great job though he needs a break and needs to fly in them

Hoping something is setup if just quarterly

He does and 100% should fly in them.

I think i will send HT next week an email if it is possible if he can setup an arena like the matchplay but than for KOTH. This way there is 0 management required and can Fuzeman fully focus on shooting us down.

Is there someone who would dislike this? If so i will aboard my email.

This made me log in immediately and post this reply.  I would dislike this and I think HiTech would also. He has done plenty with Matchplay but in my opinion, fwiw, fitting KOTH into MatchPlay is forcing a square peg into a round hole and it removes key elements of KOTH. Matchplay's randomness pretty much eliminates wabbit hunting. That's the biggest one in my book. Anyone can setup a custom arena and use matchplay. We did try setting it up and running it but as with the event there wasn't enough participation to make it worthwile.
Discussing KOTH for me now is pulling a scab off a wound trying to heal.  I thought I ran a good KOTH and that's why I volunteered for it.
Unfortunately I had to always be a  :police: man. When we have trouble using rockets or anything besides guns or something like how much or how long above 6k is really breaking the alt cap rule it got FRUSTRATING. And those 'discussions' were with regular players that flew KOTH berore. Heck even getting everyone tuned to 101 was an issue and all of those things were CLEARLY defined in the rules.
I will argue you need more than a half dozen players for a good KOTH. One or two really good sticks show up then and the average guy is sxcrewed. When Bruv was trying to kreep EuroKOTH going I hink I got him to schedule one and Rud3boi and I showed up. We did fly a few rounds and results were as expected. IMO, and I guess I'm the only one who sees it, for newer players to have a chance yoiu need more players and a range of skilled players, refereing to Violators post in a different thread. Few new players wanted to try it as they thought they didnt have a chance and would just be cannon fodder for the Red Baron. A few players might res8ult in a few good fights, that I would agree with, but its NOT a KOTH.
I've said all of this before in previous posts but lets rip the scab off a few more times.

Scheduling duties on the CM Team have changed a little and I have just submitted 26 February for the TOC.
I've talked with TC and it seems we can't settle on a guaranteed date he can make it and 'm hoping its far enough away that things settle down for him.
It gives me time to get sick again, oh a Led Zeppelin reference   :aok :aok :aok, as I'm getting a bit congested.

I suppose your right Fuzeman. My intention was to make it easier for you or anyone else and I think you ran a great KOTH for many years. But if you put it like this it makes me look at the event from another angel and makes me see it your way. I won't send in the request. <S>

Thank you and <S>.  And lets face it, other CMs have ran KOTH and some have flown in theirs and some haven’t. I chose to put the running of the event before the chance to fly in it.

I like this idea, Dutch!

I understand that there are problems to be worked out, but I'm not sure they are particularly difficult problems.
In any event, a semi-automated (if imperfect) KOTH free-for-all arena sure appeals more to me than just ending KOTH.

So, we've had 1 "nay" vote for asking HTC about this idea.
I'll add my 1 "yea" to the tally. I just don't see the harm in asking.

He already did once. It was very difficult to test it with less than five people, which is about twice the number of testers we ended up with.
I can’t control what or why others do what the do so feel free to do whatever you feel like doing.
At the moment I don’t feel like searching for related threads to matchplay and KOTH.
Better things to do….. clean litter boxes.    :headscratch:    :bolt:

By the way the TOC is 26 February.

Well, more urgent things…..
Let’s go with that. :aok

Edit>>> I did search, unfortunately most of the ones where HiTech responded and added information are in the CM Form and that’s for CM eyes only.
And those posts are from between my stints as a KOTH CM, they involved Kanth, Junky, Bruv, HiTech amongst orhers. I think I’m safe saying that.

And now I’m thinking of that Lynyrd Skynyrd song… “Ohhh,   that smell.” So time to get cleaning.

If your stuck on Matchplay, and there seems to be a following, figure this out:
If you spawn randomly around the matchplay circle, how to you hunt the wabbit?????

How hard is it for someone to get CM rights to run a KOTH?

Need the ability to run the logs, set the plane and ground anyone breaking rules purposely

Fights on at 5k

The rest is fluff imo

The days of dozens of KOTH participants are gone I think we can all agree on that

If there are a dozen that would be great but if only 5 it should be run, not as much fun but still fun for the participants...usually

Hoping HT figures something out to keep what many think is the best feature going for AH

Blows the pants off the 3 hour scenarios imo

So just how many rules are we throwing out, those edges of the square peg your forcing into the round hole, do we want to ignore.

I never thought flying to the closest contact was hard. Why was it allowed? So I guess you want everyone to just fly to the wabbit and kill it? Not that I was a wabbit much but that doesn't sound fun for them.

I can provide a CM application to anyone who wants.
Fact of the matter is very few see it as you or I do, and we don't even see the same thing.
I could be wrong but I think HiTech’s focus is on the game. We have a team of CMs to take care of events.

Why are Scenario’s, FSO, MNM still running? There’s enough player interest to make it worth the volunteer to do what they do.

And to finish, the TOC is 26 February, which is the threads topic.
Why not start a ‘Saving KOTH’ thread if you want to. Or work on matchplay to the point you’re happy with that.

My rear is a stubborn one when it comes to going to the ER or knowing that I'm fixiin' to be in a cast

No worries,  I'll be alright if my 2 flights last night were an indication...in one of my encounters I had my -1 hog turning with an a6m3 zero.... hahaha 😉

Swapping out that worn-out CH controller (used it many years, is a 1997 model), to a few years newer Ch fighter stick made all the difference.... hahaha... (also gives an insight to why I was always logging off a lot in the koth events I was able to attend last year)

Last night’s freezing rain just took its toll on our power.
We are dark with two lines down across a driveway on other side of road. The pole was on fire but seemed to go out when the transformer exploded.
They have a couple days to fix it.

LATE ADDITION- we have about a 1/4 mile’s worth of power line equipment out there now.

There’s a couple more bucket trucks out there and guys straining their necks looking up at that pole now.
Sabres-Capitals game tomorrow at 1 pm.  Guess I miss the third period. The sacrifices some of us CM’s are willing to make though.

Sunday at 3 pm. I’ll have to run a mini-KOTH to freshen up my technique, it’s been a while.
