not much to say. i hadn't heard anything about this restoration. the video just popped up in my youtube feed.

Nice video. I was a bit surprised at how mellow the engine sounds were. I hope she stays flight worthy a long time.

That is because of the turbocharger.

yea, i enjoyed it. i especially enjoyed seeing another 38 airborn. i just emailed a friend that still goes to mcguire afb on a regular basis to find out if this is actually the pudgy that graced the main entrance, or if it's just done up to look like her.

Always great to see another 38 flying. East coast too. Maybe one of these days one will make it to Reading. Been a long time since I've seen one.

Yes!  I remember seeing a p38 video a few years ago with a MUCH more aggressive cam lope.

Does anyone know about this particular bird? I did a search and came up with nothing about a P-38 restoration happening in Florida but this video. Is it another airframe or a repainted one?

Great Britain ordered P38s.  They were without turbo/ superchargers.  Government restrictions about technology.  Great Britain gave them backed as they performed poorly.

There are only a few of the remaining airworthy P-38s that retained the supercharger. They purposefully de-rate these engines on a lot of warbirds to  preserve them. Nobody is flying them at 30K anymore under any circumstances.

Those turbos are fantastically expensive to keep operational, with potentially severe consequences if they fail.  Not surprising that some/most/all of them would be removed from flying airframes, given that finding parts for them is going to be almost impossible (and you can't exactly whip up a new turbine in the sheet metal shop).

I agree I missed the year that reading had the 109 even though it was a recreation if I recall plus miss ya Ty with ya Drano
