I was wondering as the talk of ENY and radar and such are bouncing around the boards again, why dont we go back to the old days?
Reset the GV dar to what we had in the old days (no locating box).
Reset the aircraft dar to what we had in the old days (dot dar).
Reset the icon ranges back to the old days (planes and GV icons display at the same ranges).
Reset the side switch timer back to an hour (I know it was that way because of a mistake, but it worked).
After all, those of us who are left are pretty much the same players from back then. It would change the game enough to seem like something new. Once word got out it may bring back more of the GV players who left when the "here I am!" dar was started. It would put the "fog of war" back into the game. It could generate more action as player wont just turn away and run when the plane icon appears on the map, they will have to stay in longer to find out what the dot is.
These are just "check boxes" in the arena settings and could easily be switched to run for a couple weeks/tour and then could be switched back if it didnt work out.
What do you think?

Radar alt?

Radar alt?
I dont think they should change that one. Raising that back up would only encourage the NOEs again and we are looking to add action, not avoid it by flying under radar.

You lost a lot of players with that one. It added spice and surprise. Not just the same ole same ole circle jerk then run to ack.
It still alerted the base when you got within it's range ring regardless of alt. You just didn't have 100 miles to prepare for the arrival. That added tactical surprise and excitement and a rush to get defenders launched quickly. It allowed squads to try an attempt a capture through cunning without bringing an entire hoard to just obliterate with numbers.
But it doesn't matter. None of this will happen.

The problem became EVERY mission was an NOE and so defense became a "whack-a-mole" type game in most cases getting there just that half second too late. No I think we lost more players because of the endless NOEs than we did for not having as many NOEs.
The game has lost is "strategy" game play where squads use to run "squad nights" and run missions or up in defense of another squad running missions. Once the dar shows a group of planes taking off it is too easy to get ahead and get a high cap in place, easily defeating the mission before it can even gets its bombs off. I know that is one of the things that chased away most of the 47 Ronin with Oddball at the head, the same happened with the Pigs on the Wing with "way" at the lead.

I disagree. I knew a lot of old AK's that left when that was broken because they realized the only alternative was simply using mass hoards.
What you got with the original settings was a bunch small unit clashes. 4 LA-7 scrambling to intercept 3 arriving fighters escorting two heavy attack and a single goon. All you had to do was fight your way to the goon and you deflected the attempt. Led to many a great small fight that had a sense of emergency and purpose.
The alternative is mass hoard. Is that better? It's either stealth and surprise or grind'em down with irresistible numbers.
If NOE needed tweaked a little, you could simply extend the field alert rings a touch to give another minute of warning.
It was fun on both sides. Scrambling to get defenders up at a back field that started flashing had a BoB feel.
But, this is all just wizzing in the wind.

I realize I put 6 players in that NOE package and for many days that is a majority of all the players on a team, but that is a different problem. ;)

Nuke 75% of the trees and I’m all in.

OH so wrong. 2 buffs, 1 Hvy fighter and a couple fighters for cap and troops can come in with alt/timing and win a base if running dot dar. NOEs .... half dozen P38s and a goon and we could grab a base in 2 minutes time after time. When the NOE was king it didnt matter if you got the base, Ive seen whole squads bail when busted to just up on the other side of the map to NOE there.... Whack-a-mole.
No dar is good..... Trees on the other hand..... Id love to see a crap load of those disappear.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree on NOE raids. I thought they added a lot of fun and variety.
It doesn't matter though. Neither that nor the changes you suggested will ever see the light of day.

I did like the dot dar better

The title track on the first album for my Aces High band is “I Got Those Runway Tree Blues” :rock

I liked NOE raids. Zooming past everything at high speed to the goons waiting in the back of the mission on the deck. Easy pickings

This is the answer to most of these thread types
Silence from HT about any future plans is deafening and telling at the same time
Shame as it is the best a2a multiple player sim going but it's base is literally dying off..

Trees give realism. Deleting them would also end most of GV actions. Think about maps of thick forest areas like Nordic countries. Sahara is a different story, of course.

Actually, GV vs GV combat took quite a hit when AH3 with its much greater coverage of trees & bushes dropped. For example, it instantly killed off the formerly very popular Tank Town on CraterMa, because it now suddenly was much more a game of Hide & Seek, with an emphasis on "hide".
AH had previously a notably higher percentage of GV on GV kills, and a much higher k/h in the same aspect.

Now, the tank town in crater MA is a ghost town.

There were multiple maps in AH2 that had epic tank battles. I remember dropping an 4000lbs cookie on a hillock on 82 spawn and getting 9 kills. :D
