This is my first Me 410 skin. Devil505 requested I create a Hungarian Me 210 skin for a future event but I'm still working out some inconsistencies with the available info for RHAF squadron markings. So I decided to start with a LW Me 410 skin instead, thanks to Lyric1 for finding me the info for it.
This Me 410 was flown by Erprobungskommando 25 over Germany in April 1944. E.Kdo 25 was an operational trials unit and had a dozen 410s equipped with the huge 50mm BK-5 cannon. The idea was that a BK-5 round would be able to destroy an enemy bomber with one shot and could be fired from outside the range of its target's rear guns. In reality though E.Kdo 25 found the gun's tremendous recoil, the 410's lack of manoeuvrability and the need to aim using a telescopic sight meant that this wasn't practical. To hit a bomber the gun had to be fired much closer and for this batteries of fast firing 20 and 30mm cannons were more effective. Hitler though, ever a sucker for new weapons with big guns, was very enthusiastic and ordered two BK-5-equipped Me 410 groups to be formed. Ekdo 25's aircraft were therefore transferred to II./JG 26 in May but they suffered huge losses and achieved very little, this particular aircraft being shot down on its first mission.
