Title: New tour !! What'cha flying ?

I was usualy fly eight. P51 = I suck P47 = I suck Yak3 = meh.. Spit VIII = Ok KI 84 = I suck D9 = I suck A5 = Ok Brewster = Not bad
So in my continual quest to be the badist mothr in the valley I am going to fly two. The Brew, fighter mode, and the 51 in attack mode.
Not fly stupid and not bail when I have to fly home after a nothing burger sortie. Which is difficult after the third nothing burger
Not fly from a base capped by the Rook horde. Which is difficult after a few nothing burgers. The goal being to have a positive K/D.
If I can do that, my wife will allow guns in the house...

A positive K/D is the easiest thing to achieve if you're selective in your engagements (read: timid) and fly fast planes and stick to friendly territory so you can bail and live.
Strive for a high kills-per-sortie or even better kills-per-hour. Take a look at atlau's numbers and tell me he's not finding action every time he logs on, somehow.
Also, pick a plane and master it. F4U is a nice balance between speed and turning, and super-fun to knife fight in. Finding a consistent ride will give you good insight into how planes match up, and it really helps hone your aim which makes a huge difference in your success. :salute

I did the same for a couple months (G14 fighter, anything else attack mode) I could "just" keep my percentages about the same while flying the G14. I think if I flew twice as much a month, or more Id get to the point were the first half of the night wasnt going to be just finding the lead again. I love the 109s, but I just hate the guns!
Diving into hopeless situations teaches you SA, the same with upping from a capped base plus in most cases its fun as hell :devil

If your goal is for a positive K/D, I'd recommend trying to get at minimum 2 kills per sortie, this will ensure that even in you die a lot, you still go positive. Secondly, from a combat point of view, if you are going to be flying a brew, I recommend you get a lot of alt if you are flying to an enemy base, like 15k, and make sure you get some alt back after you dive on your first enemy. Its all about patience in getting your E back, not getting caugh up slow after you dive in. You will get jumped on very quickly if you go in under 5k without going atleast 350.
I'd recon to learn the strategy of attack vs defense planes. Planes like the Ki84, spit, Brew, La7, Yak ect, are great for defending a base. They turn well for counter punch and can gain alt and acceleration quickly to pounce on low BnZer who are diving in and getting slow. They are generally better for fights on the deck. Attack planes, like most of your American planes, Typhie/Temps, 109s (can be a good defense too), 190s ect are great for getting alt and attacking planes at an enemy base. They can dive well, escape from trouble easier after a dive, are better for attacking bombers, and generally have more ammo. They aren't very great at turn and burn and are sluggish on the deck which can make it an easy target to pick if you have alt over them.
If you stick to a rule of thumb on the advantages of attack vs defense planes, you will generally find more success with your K/D. If you only stick to one plane for both, than you will need to find situations for using those planes, like rolling off a CV with defense planes to attack planes at a base, or rolling from a back field in an attack plane to go defend your base that has enemies coming in if you don't want to use a defense counter punch plane.
Last tour I crushed it with the P47N getting a 22 K/D with 68 kills and also a 16 K/D in the F4u1d, so I do know a little of what I talk about. I normally do just what I mentioned above though know how to counter punch in those attack planes which normally throws players off because they dont expect me to get flaps out and turn. You do have to make sure you dont get picked from the guys behind them. So you may have to drag a player out for a bit to get them in a 1v1 situation if you can. Just a lucky month for sure, but i do like to keep it going when I have a good run. One of my other favorite planes is the Ki84, and I've been trying to get 2500 kills in that for the Jap achievement but it's taking forever! I've been really enjoying the P47 lately so might stick with that, or fly a P38 a few times. Will see how it goes.

P-47s…. Goodbye to your VH’s, ords and dars. My fave thing to do right now. 190A8…. The lite version of above. 109G14… I am not very good as a fighter but I’ve been having some good luck in this one lately so I’m going to give it some time. Lancasters… Takes 38 months to get to 10k but it’s fun to drop that payload. I’m even getting better on the tail gun. (24s and 17s for quick trips) 110G… It’s such a beast how can you not go make a mess somewhere?
I want to get better at dogfighting with the P47s. I was also thinking I might do more tanks than I have been.

Bring gondies in the G14 :old: fly it like a shark entering a school of fish. Quick and unpredictable strikes. Aim with crossing shots rather than direct 6oclock shots. Keep convergence between 350-400. They are heavy bullets and like to dip quickly under 350 convergence and make it hard to lead.

"If" I could shoot, 2 or 3 per sortie would be no problem. I get to guns on two sometimes three. Good setups. But I can't shoot well, but I am getting better. But I can't kill quick. Killing quickly is necessary in multiple engagements as they keep coming.

As someone who died on his 50th kill with no death in the P47N last tour, there is nothing scarier than a spray and pray 190A8 going just a bit faster than you on the deck :furious :rofl

Despite having 411 Kills and 394 Deaths to look through of my own that tour, it appears we may never shared the same airspace in opposition. Were you a devout Rook at the time? :noid

Always have been. I don’t have a good answer as to why. Just liked the people I guess. I’ve switched to the others a few times but only for a session any length of time.
I was definitely better back in the day lol. Played more time last month and don’t even have half the kills I had in tour 114 but I have 1.5X the deaths lol.

Hey thanks Fugitive that’s a nice offer but no need for all that work. I don’t remember what tour I started in anyway. I also thought I spelled my name with out the c which is why I could never find it.
Not sure I want more reminders of how far I’ve slipped lol. :old:

Good SA while "turnin and a burnin" can give you a good K/D There are many ways to get to where you want to be!

I suggest you find someone to wing up with each sortie - and finding a good partner will open up options to take advantage. You don't even have to announce it, but just latch onto someone you see as being good/aggressive.

I would also agree the Brewster(and other underperforming, highly maneuverable AC) aren't really great fighters for the MA these days. Most opponents are gonna run from you until they have a considerable numerical advantage OR extend you out once they lose any kind of positional or energy advantage. You can't really blame the for the latter either as they are only using their planes strengthens relative to yours. In my experience you're more likely to find yourself more fights flying things like the P51,P47,190s. You'll have the speed to keep up with most opponents and you'll have people more willing to tango with a "less maneuverable" AC.
