To save a bit of calibration time when approaching target at steady speed and alt:
Hit f6, then U, push the scoped view forward until u can see far ahead of the plane. Do not hit U again but HIT F1. The f6 crosshairs will remain looking far ahead next time you go into Bombardier view.
Use this to calibrate on your target or to make final course adjustments before you calibrate.
