BSA event at the US Naval Academy
« on: January 10, 2004, 10:13:10 AM »
Will be traveling to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis next week for the Boy Scouts of America's National Eagle Scout Association Jamboree.  For many of our scouts this will be a once in a lifetime event, with several "first time" experiences; first flight (commercial airline), first time in Washington, etc.  We have scheduled time before and after the 3 day event to do a little poking around the area.  For those who know the area well, are there places you consider "must see?"

Our guys are from a very small rural community.  The trip runs about $500 USD per scout which they have worked to pay for.  I would like this trip to be memorable for them.

This is not a "vacation" sort of trip by any means.  The guys have worked hard to be eligible for this, and will be working hard during the event.  Some of the subjects the scouts will be working on at the Naval Academy:

Astronomy
Atomic Energy
Aviation
Chemistry
Computers
Electronics
Engineering
Medicine
Oceanography
Radio
Space Exploration
Weather

There's the National Air and Space Museum, and not too far away the Science and Technolgy museum.   But if you only have three days and you have to work, there's not really enough time to see everything.  You might be able to visit bot these museums in 1 day but you'd have to move fast.  Then there's the new Air museum out at Dulles airport, but that would take a whole day to visit.  It can take hours just to get in from what I've heard.

Maybe someone at the Naval Academy could recommend something.
