Eastern Front Dora

Fw 190D-9 of Ergänzungs-Jagdgeschwader 2 in May 1945. This unit was created as Ergänzung kampfgeschwader (J) in late 1944 to train bomber pilots to flight fighters and was based in Pilsen, Czechoslovakia - a relatively safe area to train pilots by late 1944 standards. But by March 1945, the Soviets had taken closed in around Czechoslovakia and this unit was pressed into active combat and renamed to indicate its status as a replacement fighter unit. "Blue 18" was this unit's only known of Dora. Many older references claimed that this plane carried red markings, but the latest research indicates that they were, in fact, blue.
