VOX problem
« on: February 25, 2004, 10:44:12 PM »
I just upgraded my motherboard to an NFORCE2 ultra (Shuttle AN35-N) and I have a vox problem. I am now getting a double echo when someone else talks on VOX, but when I transmit my voice sounds normal to others. All other game sounds are fine.

It is not the sound card. I have tried the onboard realtek 5.1 sound and a SB Live and get the same results with both.

I do operate a household LAN behind a Sohoware NAT router, and when my buddy Rutger drops by to fly I get/got the same echo with both machines online at the same time, so I believe the new issue is network related. However, when I try the game on my "B" machine there is no echo, so I don't think it's at the router or ISP end. Could it be a NIC card issue with the new onboard Ethernet?

Any thoughts or suggestions? I suppose I could try a PCI NIC card and disable the onboard. But, perhaps theres a setting that can be changed instead.

Well, managed to find the problem. For anybody else encountering the problem in the future, something to look out for...

I ended up, somehow, having the TCP/IP protocol loaded three times for my one little NIC card. I deleated two and the echo went away. The only question now is do I stay with the onboard sound or go back to the SB Live. I'm not a big fan of onboard sound, but maybe realtek has improved with it's latest and greatest. Any opinions? Don't seem to see a FPS difference.
