Went hiking in eastern Kentucky on the first day of spring. Was a neat trip, but I had a bad head cold. Very steep terrain, as this forest is in the hills of the Appalachian Mountains.

This is "Natural Bridge" in the Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky. Probably 150 feet long.

Here is the natural rock bridge as viewed from a cliff several hundred feet away.

Picture taken from the natural bridge showing how mountainous the terrain is.

My hiking partner spotted a cave, and we headed over to check it out. Then this huge snake popped out of some debris. I thought it was a garter snake but I wasn't sure. Couldn't remember the rules for telling a poisonous snake.

After about 40 minutes on the trail, we descended into a valley and came upon this stream.

It even had this neat little beach. The stream was teaming with trout.

A quick rain storm rolled in, and after about 15 minutes, it stopped raining. However, a neat fog appeared over the stream.

Being the first day of spring, I was surprised how green the forest was. This strange little plant (rhodenderon I think) covered the lower parts of the forest. Made it seem like a tropical rain forest.

At any point during your hike were you forced to squeal like a pig?

LOL, or play a banjo duet?
When you said huge snake, I had visions of a 25 foot Boa, not that little worm you pictured!
