I'm still very confused when it comes to use of the radio.  Has anyone published a radio primer? Help!

Check there is a small primer on the home page under game tips.  Here is a quick over view.

The channels of the radios are accessed thus.

To Talk (type) on each radio

Radio 1 use / (Slash)
Radio 2 use Shift + /
Radio 3 use CTRL + /
Radio 4 use ALT + /
Radio 5 (INOP)
to set the radios to different channels type

.radio X XX (where X is radio # 1 - 5 and XX is the channel desired) For example to set radio 2 to channel 2 you would type .radio 2 2 and hit enter (dont forget dot before radio (period key)).  Then to convers you would use Shift / to talk on radio 2.

The following is the channel conventions.

Channel 1 - Talks to the whole world
Channel 2 - Talks to your country (text shows Green)
Channel 3 - Talks to the room your in (IE if your in tower, Talks to all in that tower, if in flight broadcasts to those inflight)(text in red)
Channel 4 - Talks to Squad (Club) text shows dark Blue but to be changed
Channel 5 - Talks to observers and gunners on your plane. (Currently INOP in beta)

Channels 100-199 - Anyone tuned to the same channel in this range and also in your country will hear you.

Channels 200-299 - Anyone tuned to the same channel in this range will hear you, regardless of country.

200 is open and anyone on that channel will hear.

Conversly if you wish to privately talk to someone type .radio X XXXXXXXXX  (where X again is radio # and XXXXXXXXX is the callsign (exactly) of person you want to private with) For example to talk private with me on radio 3 you would type .radio 3 FirefxAT.  Then CTRL / to talk and Only I will see text.

HOPE that helps

have fun

One can also tune radios without dot commands.

Press any radio button (I have mapped mine away from the '/' keys, preferring instead to use the 5,6,7,8,9 keys) then click in the buffer of the radio you want to tune and enter then number with the keyboard and make sure to press enter.

Likewise, if you select the wrong radio, another can be selected by using the mouse (even after the text message has been entered, but before it has been transmitted).

Cheers,
