Anyone here shoot in IDPA matches?

Is it fun?

One of the local ranges has events once a month and it sounds like it could be pretty fun.

I haven't in a long time, but they used to be a lot of fun.  Three-gun matches are good too if they have them.

Pistol, shotgun, rifle (or sub-machine gun).  They give awards for high-score for each and overall high score.  Same idea on all the courses, just adapted to which weapon you're using.

You would not know if competing in IDPA stuff counts towards the CMP requirments would  ya?

I would love to be able to buy M1s through the CMP.

I shoot 3 gun and IDPA weekly.  Good clean fun if it's available in your area.

I've shot a fair bit with Ernest Langdon (http://www.langdontactical.com/el.html), and he'll be doing instructing for our school (http://www.thetrainingedge.ca).  There are a pile of incredible shooters in IDPA, with a lot less BS than you'll find (at least I find) with IPSC type events.

As for IDPA being "fun", it's pretty much the most fun I've had in the shooting sports I've been involved with since I was 5 (25 years of pressing trigger now).  Not only is it fun, it has at least SOME elements of real world tactics, unlike 99% of IPSC and other gun-games, save 3/4/5 gun probably.

IPDA highly recommended!!
