A guitar owned by Mother Maybelle Carter is up for sale.
A member of one of country music's most influential families, "Mother Maybelle" Carter is thought to have purchased the Gibson L-5 in 1928 with money she made from early recording sessions. It was the most expensive model Gibson made — $275 without a case.
Now priced at $575,000, Carter's guitar had been on loan to the Country Music Hall of Fame, which considered the instrument one of its "crown jewels."
