Corsair Says AH2 Ready
« on: May 14, 2004, 11:30:50 PM »
AH2 has passed one of its most severe tests:  the Corsair, with 50% fuel, two thousand-pounders and eight rockets, takes off cvs without a fuss.

Does that without wep and with only 50% flaps.  That's the way always thought the powerful F4U would act on a carrier.  No more of that floundering struggle just to get airborne.

Bravo, AH2.

Flew a C-Hog around field, thru hangers and stuff for quite awhile yesterday, didnt matter that there were no Bogeys or anyone to dance with... it was just fun to fly

Halo have a look at http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=114821

I did the tests a few versions ago and as stated it's auto takeoff tests only.

Interesting, Replicant, thanks.  I recall that takeoff thread.

I never use auto takeoff, and (duh) it dawns on me that I never consider wind over the cv either.  I naively figured the skipper would keep the cv into the wind for launch operations ... until I am reminded cv manuevers in Aces High generally do not appear to ever consider the wind.

Maybe taking off downwind was a major reason I plunked so many fully laded Corsairs into the drink on takeoff before?  Nah, don't think so -- many were complaining of Corsair cv takeoff difficulty.

Anyway, so far Aces High II seems more realistic in Corsair takeoffs from carriers than Aces High The First did.  If other plane handling is as much of an improvement, I will be a happy camper indeed.

Yeah, I never use auto-takeoff for anything heavy since it's so unreliable and why I thought of testing to see if it was 'fixed' in AH2.  I think I'll continue to take off manually! :)

Ah, the F4U-D cv takeoff news in Aces High II gets even better.  Did it on line with no wind (except presumably cv speed), no WEP, and max load of 100% fuel, two notches of flaps, two thousand-pounders, and six rockets.

Dipped maybe a little but nothing like its wallowing ordeal in Aces High I.

Landing no problem either.

And ... confirming early reports of more realistic fuel consumption, slow heavily loaded climb to 8k took quarter tank of fuel for a nearby target.  Climb rate only 1.5 fully loaded, and impressively  better after releasing ordnance.

Sure feels more realistic according to what I've read about Corsairs.
