'Flight of geese" sight? Never heard it called that. I'm thinking you are refering to the 105D sight (far left side, manual clip on filters, big switch underneath to change from AP to HEAT/HEP reticle? I used that one alot at Ft. Irwin as they didn't allow us to use our laser rangefinders (something about blindness risk of the OPFOR...)

I liked TTS (Tank Thermal Sight) the best. Used it night and day all the time.

My favorite tasks were cleaning the bore evacuator after gunnery (What a stinking mess!) and of course changing track (at Ft. Stewart we had to assemble two whole new tracks from individual links...no wonder I can't stand up staight anymore...lol)

You can tell old tankers by their smell. They smell like wet paint, diesel fuel and boiling car batteries all mixed together.

I'm getting dizzy just thinking about it...

Flight of geese sight is the one on the old M48. I have been in them.  :)

I think I qual as one of the old guys that are spoke of in this thread, I'm also active duty, I leave again for Iraq in July.
Not that I really want to leave my family, but I have to go, I'm just following orders that say go.
And when the order comes to return, I'll tally up my kills, and thank God that I'm alive to do so.
And I promise everybody that I'll do my best to bring the young guys back home too. So they can tally up their kills, and thank God they're alive to do so.
I will also train any young guy that wants to be trained, and with luck, I'll send back a few guys that have experience enough to fight a war and come home alive

SB1086,

Thanks for serving and being a leader to look out for the younger troops. Keep your head down and bring yourself back too!

My attitude hasn't changed much over the years.  I have allways distrusted government.  Socialist leaning ones are particularly vile and I don't particularly relish putting my life in some new officiers hands..

I was even told that I was mentaly unfit for duty during the conflict in SE asia way back when.

now.. so far as defending the country goes.. I pay taxes so that people who want to get the benifiets of military life will fight for me when called on.  Mostly I pay for them to go in and out of the service without ever fireing a gun in anger.   They really should read the fine print tho if they think it is simply a benifiet program.

No problem Mavrick, I keep my head down all the time, It spins around on a swivel too :)

Redtail I questioned the leaders once, back in Filght school. I questioned why we went to war, i was shown the movie Patton with George C Scott. The part atthe beginning where he stands in front of the Falg addressing the troops explains all my questions :) Now when my troops question me, i show them my favorite movie, Patton, their questions are answered.
Yes I have a hell of a bunch of guys
