..........and flew the recon mission for D-Day. Just dont know which model ;)

Think the photo recon model was the F-5. The P-38 was abundant over the Normandy beaches. The main reason was it's shape was so distinctive the Allied brass wanted it over the beaches so there would be no doubt in the ground troops minds on if it was freindly or not.

Yeah, I believe USAAF 7th Photo Group(Not sure) fly Lockheed F-5C Lighting and F-5C carries invasion stripes on the lower half of booms and wings in the latterr half of the 1944.  Though the stripes were supposed to keep Allied gunners from firing at friendly aircraft, the paint didn't seem to stop it, much to the frustration of photo pilots who often had to drop down low over enemy lines to get their pictures.

My guess that P-38J and F-5 Photo Recon see the action on D-Day and I ain't too sure that L model did see the action on D-Day.

Its a shame you never see it in the PTO in here!! Sure, put it and the F4Us as well as the N1J2K at FAR REAR BASES.....opps, never mind!
