No antialiasing since Beta 40
« on: June 09, 2004, 02:23:04 PM »
^ What the title says.

For some silly reason, FSAA has refused to work in AH2 -or- AH1.  I dont think that AH is the culprit, but possibly just bad timing on my part.

I did a fresh reinstall of AH2, copied no settings over.  I have uninstalled the Catalyst 4.5 drivers using ATi's Catalyst Cleaner thingy, reinstalled Cat 4.5's and nothing.

I have already made sure of the obvious - sliders and settings are exactly where I want them - 4xAA and 4xAF at 1280x1024.  It seems no matter where I set the sliders in windows, the settings dont take (thats after the reinstall of drivers too).

Frustrated, I uninstalled the cat 4.5's again and installed the latest tweaked Omega drivers - nothing.  No settings change at all.  Killed the Omegas again and put back the cat4.5's and here I sit.

I also used the Rage 3D Tweak utility and I'm beginning to think that is also a culprit.  For anyone using any tweak utility, where should the actual FSAA settings be altered?  In the regular advanced setup tab or the Tweaker tab?

meh, I cant get any settings to hold.

Are you running 1024 textures? if so my guess would be fsaa no longer is functional when out of vmemory

I am using the default texture size (512, I think) and I also get no AA.  I've tried 4x and 6x at 16x12.  I've got a 128 MB ATI 9800 Pro.

OK cured mine nothing to do with AH2.

I am using the Omega video drivers for Radeon 9800 Pro.

Been experimenting with different settings of AA and AF in video setup.
It seems the Omega drivers dont like you changing the settings yourself, because no matter where i set the AA it would not work.

Clicked on reset to default in Omega panel, and disabled application preference and all is well AA works ok at all resolutions again.

ah good find. I'm using the Omegas too and have stumped by  no AA AF despite settings with 1024 textures.

I tired the default button reset and still doesnt work for me.

Well its nice to hear I wasnt the only one :)

I've tried both 1024 and 512 size textures.  Only having 128mb on my 9600xt, I run out of vid mem at 1024.  Like Batz said, he's using about 150mb at 1024.

I putzed with almost every combination of settings on both drivers with and without Rage 3D Tweak:  defaults, maximum, minimum, turned AA off then back on, still nothing.  In other games FSAA is enabled - I tried Call of Duty (thats not run in OpenGL is it?), IL2 FB in DirectX mode, and Uru.

Just before I left for work this evening, I redownloaded the full version of Beta 39 (when I last remember it working) and still no dice.  I don't know what to do - last resort would be reformatting, but thats not going to happen :)

my system:

AMD Athlon 64bit 3000+
MSI K8T Neo
1gig DDR400
ATi Radeon 9600xt
Windows XP with Cat 4.5's (presently)
dx9.0b

Sunking you must also click on the disable application preferences in the D3D tab of the Omega drivers.

Unless you do this AA will not work as the Omega default is for application preference and AH does not enable it.

Oh btw Cat 4.6 has been released.

214th I did it correct , just doesnt work for me at 1024 textures. I'm going to try the new CATS when I get home. Someone post if they get  AF AS @ 1024 textures.

Installed Catalyst 4.6:

AA - 4x ; AF - 4x ; 1280x1024 res

Worked with 512 and 1024 textures

AA - 6x ; AF - 4x ; 1280x1024 res

Worked with 512 and 1024 textures

sigh... it reverted back to no AA.

Exited the game then re-entered.  Before logging on, I switched to 512 from 1024, and back again.  Logged on and AA was present.  It's not consistent

I think I'm running into the same behavior, Oct. I'll double check tonight, but I could swear I wasn't getting AA or AF a couple nights ago when I was flying in AH2.

Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB  Think I've running with CAT 4.5 drivers.
