X45 & Rudder Control
« on: August 05, 2004, 11:07:37 AM »
I am eventually planning to get pedals but for now I just have the X45 stick. I am having problems with the rudder control. I cannot get it to move in increments and slowly! As soon as a touch the rudder control on the throttle it jumps to the full left or right!!
I know its something I am not doing. Did anybody have this problem or know how to fix this!!

Thanks Newbe VF15

yes, in AH you have to adjust the dampening settings and the other sensitivity settings.

go to preferences / settings / joystick / settings i believe, though i dont have the game up showing me the menus

slide the dampeneing up a bit, and take the sensitivity's (all from 10-90) and bring them down in small bunches

i personally use a reverse sine wave sort of.

hard to show but here's a try

............................. .......O
............................. ......O
............................. ...O
............................. O
........................O
..................O
............O
......O
..O

where the 90 is full deflection, the 50 is about 60% deflection, the 30 is only about 20%, the 10 is around 5%

just an FYI also, if you were using a twisty stick you were almost definately inadvertantly giving rudder input on every move of the stick, this will take a long time to get used to (for me about 3 months), but it is totally worth it.

you will learn how rudder effects the plane much better, and be able to do manuevers you only dreamed were possible

good luck and "stick" with it  (hehehe bad pun)

I have the same stick and the same problem.

I now use the large thumb wheel instead for rudder. I've got used to it; and it has some advantages (it also functions as rudder trim; of course).

But to be honest; I started with a MS twisty; moved on to a Cougar (and used the thumb wheel for rudder) and now I've got the X45 and the thing I hate most is still the rudder... with AH it seems so bouncy.. one tiny input and then several oscillations.

Believe me; I've tried a lot of different damping and zone setting over the years.

I'm really begining to think pedals are the only way.

But try the thumbwheel.

I have done like Seeker and use the #1 Rotary Control on the throttle for the Rudders.  Only stop gap til I get pedals.  Can't seem to get my old analog TM pedals to work.  Thought I could get AH to see them connected thru the soundcard while the X45 was connected thru USB.  No luck.

Thank you all for the responses!!
I am conviced that you cant smooth;ly program the rudder control on the x45! I understand that you can program the rotary controls
to act like the rudder! I tried this but cant seem to make it work with smooth increments!!

Does anybody have a layout for this!!

Going to order the CH pedals! But Just puzzled why you cant make the rudder wotk like a rudder on the x45????

Thanks all again!!
