video card

? for everyone. I have a ATI9600 Pro that gives me F/R from single to mid twenty's on a E-Mach. T2485. locks up all the time.

!Gig DDR2100 512x2
DSL

What would be a better card (4/8x) for both systems

I have a less-capable machine than you and I get better frame
rates.  There could be a few things you need to do to "up" the F.P.S.  check thru a lot of the board threads for tweaking your
system to it's potential.  I will outline a few that has helped me:
   1.  Defrag your hard drive.
   2.  Get and use Spyware killers, such as Ad-Aware

   3.  (someone list this next one..forgot the name and site)
        Program that shuts down all applications running in the
        background, and launches AH2.
    4.  Set you video card to "performance" instead of "Quality"
    5. Scan hard drive for viruses..I found one and killed it
        and it REALLY free'd up my CPU power
    6. If you are using Soundblaster Live..take it out
        and make it into tiny little pieces and feed it to the cat.
         It's a CPU hogger.  Unfortunately thats all I have so I
        can;t take mine out as of yet

   Hope this little bit helps.  But again, check out the sticky
notes from "Skuzzy" on the various sections of this BBS for tweaking info.

It was written for FS2004 but works for AH, too.
    #1 Cool feature: will temporarily shut down any running services just like from Black Viper site but it will be back to normal on reboot.
    #2 Cool feature: will temporarily shut down all programs you don't want (EndItAll didn't completely shut down Norton)
   #3 Cool feature: will defrag memory
    #4 Cool feature: will launch AH
    #5 Cool feature: restarts all services/progs that it shut doown when you Quit AH and is back to the way it started.

Oh ya, and if you don't get the program Nsty told ya about,
make SURE you shut down all Norton or other firewall applications.  Including any virus protectors. These are memory hoggers as well, not to mention they cause slow down's in
your receiving packets  (ping times).

Got my new system up and runing today, It's great, IN a GV my frame rate is mid 60's and everything is much clearer,  air mid 70's.
I believe that the big problem a lot of people are having is trying to run a video card that is 4x/8x in a 4x MoBo. They will run but  degraded. Will see what happens but happy with my 9600 pro now.
