As before about my frame rates, which everyone says i should upgrade my processor, well i have done some research on a website that one has kindly given me in my last post and this is what I have and need to know..
My comp is a copaq presario 5000: the processor is as follows: 701mhz 100 mhz FSB..processor bus speed is 200 mhz.. L2 cache size: 64 kbytes.  core stepping: A0... Now the motherboard is a compaq, model: o6E4h, cpu slots/socket type: socket A.. chip setvendor: VIA    chipset model: Apollo pro  chipset revision: 3
bios manufacturer: compaq.. bios version: 786k1 and bios date is 9-14-2000... Now these are the processors that i have found  but know nothing about.. On pricewatch i found AMD Athlon 1.0 ghz 266 FSB..socket A 256k:  Now powerleap.com recommends these types here.. PL-AXP2200 kit...100,133 FSB or AMD Athlon 1000 100 FSB.. I need to know which I should get? and if I choose to get the AMD Athlon 1.0 ghz 266 FSB socket A 256k will it work for my comp. or burn out my motherboard?  I will appreciate all the help i can get on this matter.....

for a new processor you will need a new motherboard.

if you knaow enough about putting one together your self, then but a processor / MB and memory to match.

buy a video card, sound card, and network card, and re-use your old floppy, HD, CDROM, mouse, keyboard, moniter.

you will have to reformat your HD (best to do when re-loading an OS). because you have to relaod the OS for the new processor / MD and stuff.

if you have a compaq right now you probably dont have an actual OS disk, just their carppy "recovery" propritary disk which you will NOT be able to use with different hardware.

newegg.com has XPhome for $94 full version.

good luck
I don't know what to put here yet.

1st off, you cannot use ANY AMD chip on that motherboard. In order to go from an Intel chip to an AMD chip you're gonna have to get a new MB. Most likely your RAM will not transfer either. In the PIII 700 days PC100 or PC133 was the standard. Nowadays it is DDR or DDR2 that you see the most of. AMD uses a PC2100-PC3800 type of scheme, but if you are only looking to upgrade to a 1.0GHz system my advice is don't. You are not going to see an improvement from 700 to 1000 that will justify the hassle and expense of the upgrade.

Did the Presario use a standard ATX design for their case, outlets and power supply? If so it is easily upgradeable. If the Presario is a proprietary design you may need a new case and power supply. Either way the components like CD-ROM, FDD and HDD should be useable on the new system.

The cheapest with the biggest bang for your $ is the PL-AXP2200 kit. You can continue to use your memeory and the whole 9 yards. I've used 3 Powerleap upgrade adapters and had great luck with them.

Be sure to run the automated test program on the powerleap site to make sure you are buying the correct adapter.
