not sure about distance useally when the CV starts shooting at you is a good time to release it ;) But I do Think you have to slowdow and be doin around 160mph when you drop.
I am actually intrested to see what the distance would be myself as I have never hit anything yet. hehe Guess that makes my Advice kind of superfluous

If you see Hazed, ask him.  The only time I've ever hit anything with a torpedo is when I was flying on Hazed's wing.   :)

I think Lephturn made a good post about aiming the torpedos in a thread awhile back so you might be able to root around and find it.  I think he was speaking of a trop run in a PT Boat as opposed to in a Ju88 or TBM but it might do you some good to go look it up.  I'd do it myself but I'm too lazy right now.   :)

JU-88's need to be closer than TBM's or PT boat, but the plus side is they run faster, take less lead.

Good average rule of thumb is when the yellow ack is sending up waterspouts all around you. It's time to drop & get out.  A flat rudder turn will take longer to reverse, yet may increase your chances of survival.

Ju88 torpedo run
main things to remember:
DO NOT EXCEED 200mph all torps fail
190mph is a good speed
DO NOT EXCEED 200 ft all torps fail
100ft is best i find
DO NOT EXCEED 2.5k in DISTANCE
a good indicator you are within range is the ships firing at you.try to bare it as long as you can and drop as late as possible.try to rudder turn away and keep wings level, this seems to help you avoid fire on egress.
TORPEDO SPEED ON JU88 IS CONSIDERABLY FASTER
less lead is necessary.

TBM NO LIMITS ON SPEED OR ALT (as far as i know)RANGE is also a lot longer almost 5k i think.Slower so needs more lead
