rearm pads?
« on: December 27, 2001, 12:53:00 PM »
What are the refuel/rearm pads (other than the obvious), where are they and how do you use them?

Thanks!

They are the metal grates located at each end of the runway. They have little outhouse looking shacks on them. Just stop on them and you'll be rearmed in 30 seconds.

Don't know if this is still the case, but you used to have to shut off your engine on the pad in order for WEP to get re-charged.  I recommend shutting down when re-arming.  Once you get your wheels on the pad, stop and you should see a message pop up telling you that re-arming/re-fueling will be complete in 30 seconds.  If you don't see that message, you are not on the pad properly and will not be re-armed/fueled.

The re-arm pads will put your ammo and fuel back to the way they were when you launched at the start of the flight, including drop tanks and ordinance.  The will not repair damage though, so be sure to exit and get a new bird if you get shot up.

Shutting off your engine will make your engine temperature drop like a rock when on the rearm pad....giving you full WEP again.

Well you can't "run out" but WEP normally has a fixed number of minutes to start with before you overheat.  Say 5 minutes of duration.  When you are not using WEP, it regenerates at 1/2 the rate it was used.  (Or it used to work that way.)  I guess since it's tied to engine temp now shutting your engine down sounds like you will get WEP back much faster than the normal rate.

In any case, it's a good idea to shut down for those 30 seconds as you re-arm if you've been using a lot of WEP.

Hmmmm.  I'm going to try this in the air.  If I run dry of WEP in a fight, afterwards I could grab some alt, then feather the prop and kill the engine and glide for a while.  If it's just the engine being off that does it, that should cool the motor and "regenerate" my WEP much faster.  Or maybe use it all on climb-out to get to altitude fast, then a bit of gliding deadstick to cool it, and then go hunting.  It depends on how fast it cools I guess.

Interesting point.  I'll have to explore this one further.  Thanks for the tip Raub.

Lephturn, I use that trick sometimes to get the temp down and wep back faster. Even if you throttle back a little it cools faster. You can even nurse a plane with a bad radiator back if you go 50% and turn the engine off when it starts to go in the red. Youll be surprised how far you can get. As long as you dont get jumped.
