CV's - and landings!

I'm trying to get the hang of landing on CV's, and failing miserably. Every time I land - I seem to snag the wires and stop.... and then gently get flung back off the carrier! I've tried cutting engine and applying brakes but nothing seems to help.

What am I doing wrong?

hmm, never had this problem...  I catch the wire and hold space bar down and all goes well.
Which aircraft?

Maybe u've found a bug

Fidd,

I complained about this "bug" about a month ago or so.  Nothing has been done about it.  The conclusion was that the 30 knot relative wind due to the carrier chugging along pushed back the airplane and that the airplane is accurately responding to what is modelled in the sim.  

At least twice I had landed my F4U to rearm/refuel to continue a sortie and fell off the back of the carrier.  Half the battle is just being aware that this can happen and to stand on the brake.  Also, bump up your throttle just enough to counteract the backward roll. This should do the trick.

How do you rearm/refuel on a CV?  Where's the rearm pad and how do you manouver?

The rearm is at the catch wires.

I f you come to a stop pass them then turn the plane around.  You can try by locking up left wheel brake or right wheel brake and give some throttle to help spin the plane around.

Even better, if just barely crack the throttle the tiniest ammount, your plane will roll backwards and you can steer it with the tailwheel or the wheelbrakes and back up onto the rearm pad if you have overshot.

Note, NEVER do this with your hook down.  The second you touch a wire going backwards you will be catapulted off the back of the CV and die.  Heh, it is entertaining though.

Fidd,

I suffered that problem quite a bit. Maybe your landing speed to high but, anyway, simple solution is to retract tail hook before cable pulls you back off the carrier.

Add just a hair of power on landing, and your prop won't strike (in F6F), make sure you're centered on the wires, if you're to one side or the other, a prop strike is more likely.

Make absolutely sure that your throttle is pulled all the way back to idle when sitting on the carrier deck.  The instant that any thrust is produce, the airplane will start moving.  If your throttle setting isn't high enough to produce enough thrust to accelerate forward in the 33 mph WOD, the airplane will roll backwards.

Fidd, check your throttle calibration to be sure that pulling the throttle all the way back does indeed set the engine to idle.  If throttling all the way back is not setting the engine to idle, you will get the exact problem you describe.

Small terrain that spawns you behind the aircraft carrier at about 3000ft and 2-3 miles behind.

May save a lot of time to test landings.  Save you from taking off and circling around to land.
