I want to shoot some deer

Well, I went to walmarts and bought two bags of apples, a bag of carrots, and some scent neutralizing spray.  I drove to the lake, hiked back on a dry riverbed and placed the apples and carrots in a small ravine.  Should be able to sneak up on any deer that are there in the morning.

As I was leaving, I saw two does crossing the road.  I fumbled and got my camera out, but it was too dark to photograph them.  Hopefully I will have more luck in the morning.

Interestingly enough, last summer, I counted 7 deer in my front yard eating all the fruit that had fallen from our dwarf apple trees.  By the time I got to the house (it was 3am) and got my camera, they had ran away.

Scent neutralizing items are tremendously over-rated. Simple fact is to get a little vanilla extract and put it in a bag near you and once you know the rutting season (when does are in heat and bucks like to ....) then get a grunt call and go sit in areas that are likely to be feeding areas. I could take you to see several dozen large bucks and does if you lived reasonably close to Alabama. Right now is the perfect time since its the beginning of the second rut phase for does who didn't get some the first time around.

Calls? Scents?  You use these to hunt?

Gun, clothes, ammo, done.

Isn't it "baiting" only when you kill them when they come to the food?  Otherwise, I would think putting out food to photograph them would only be considered "Feeding".

Even those freaking weirdos in California shouldn't object to feeding deer, unless of course you disturbed their "aura", effected their "karma" or made them fail to realize their inner beings.
