Out of curiousity...

was there by chance a mass goon raid airborne somewhere? or a massive mission of bomber formations?

Yes.  Filth orchestrated a 2 country scenario in the Main Arena.

It ran tonight.  It was quite impressive.

Just after, what must have been 25 bomber formations with maybe 50 fighters hit the target, we we trounced on by the opposition, in significant numbers.

On our egress from target, just as I had drained every shell from the chin/ball/upper and tail guns, we died, and while discussing the mass 2nd raid the arena died a horrible, screaming death.

But, twas well worth it, the event was a rousing success.

I think, HT hid an on off switch in that particular city and we accidently roasted a target that would normally seem a non issue.  Woops, our bad :)

My estimates on the actual numbers are way off, as we had a great turnout, but needed a placeholder to ID the scope and scale without taking the time to to a headcount :)

Which one were you Roc? :)  See a 152 ahead of that final egressing stream of buffs?  I was just on another pass on the lead buff. :(

Well,

I started out as Group Leader for the 3 Squadrons of B17s, 1/3 way through flight, my throttle was stuck wide open and I decided to calibrate.

That seemed to cause an argument between my joystick, computer, and all rational thought.

The argument was settled when I squashed a squirrel with 3 bombers crashing into the ground at, oh I'd say 442 IAS (approximate)

I then decided to catch up in another flight of B17s.

This, after 1 sector behind trying to "lead" a flock of buffs, seemed rather pointless, so I promoted the Broadway Bomber ASW into lead and jumped on him as a gunner.

Spent the time in gunner position calling pos reps, pulling groups in tighter, spotting ingressing uglies etc :)

That final 152 may very well have gotten a ping or two onto ASWs plane.    All I know is, I drained tail, upper, ball and chin guns, and put a healthy dent into the belts of the righ/left gunner spots before we lost parts that apparently were rather critical in flight maintenance.
