HTC - TE / Modeling query?
« on: January 20, 2005, 05:37:24 PM »
Was just curious if there will be naming conventions available for materials, such as lights, ect...

and also if player made 3d objects can have moving parts, such as rotation as seen on the CV radar?

BTW - I hope those are the right terms to describe it....hopefully I'm not confusing terms.

We export our material table you so can use it.

You can not place lights. Or do rotations.

'nother question in the modeling vein -

When we create an object for the game, How many versions of LODs should we create? And what would be an estimate to the base polycount for any certain object?

And finally, Should we created a "burned" object shape if it is able to be destroyed?

I'm sure I'll think of more questions....lol

This modeling stuff is fun.

BTW - the correct scale for AH is one unit = one foot, correct?

Poly Counts: Less is better.

LOD 3 or 4.

Dead shapes , yes.

We also have the ability to export any of our shape lib that ships with the new object editor to ac3d. So they make a good sample.

Hitech,  you just said the magic word for me. I'm one of andy's alpha testers on ac3d and have been working with this since 3.0 (next version will be 5.0!)     Do you have plugins created so Ac3D can export to AH files or do you guys still want control like IL2 is doing?   I'd love to work on some stuff if this opens up to add-ons.

Thx for the info HT -

one more thing :)

What's going to be the protocal for objects created in programs outside of the AH AC3D/Object editor? Will they be easily imported into the OE, or if they are exported into a .x file - can they go directly to the terrain editor?

Importer isn't plug in. Is part of our object editor. And it just imports AC3D files directly.

I'm getting a little bit confused...sorry...

Will the AcesHigh object editor be using AC3D files exclusively?

So any object created will have to pass through AC3D before it can be imported into the AH terrain editor? So if someone is using Gmax, 3d studio max, or other 3d design software - will have to convert to AC3D specs just to get to the Aces High object editor?

Guess it comes down to.....if I'm using a different 3d program - will I have to purchase a copy of AC3D to use with the AcesHigh object editor? Or is AC3D built into the AcesHigh object editor?

Told ya I'm a little confused...

think it comes from trying to follow that turbo prop thread..the only thing i can figure out from that thread is that you can lead a horse to water, but you cant make em drink...

Correct.

The AH object editor takes shapes like hangers town buildings , and puts them into one mesh like an entire airfield layout. Or ground tiles.

You can create objects with just the library we ship, or make your own via AC3d. or Converting into ac3d format. Btw AC3D suports quite a few file formats.

Thanks again for the info...

So, anyone who wants to change objects, will have to purchase AC3d?

How extensive will the object library be? I've been kicking around some ideas about a feild layout based on some of the 8th airforce based on these layouts below. I take it we wont be able to create new static objects to build and put in the design? Like revetments, ground support equiptment, ect.. Say if there was a cletrac with an ordinance trailer behind it? I wouldn't be able to use that as a static object for scenery, but I guess I could replace whatever object is currently being used for ammo with the cletrac/trailer?

Definetly have my interested piqued with this new object editor...lol You guys are going to have to add a 3d Object editing forum now :)

Again, thanks for your time.

What should we export objects from AC3D as for them to work in the new TE?

Im afraid to ask...
is there a limit to the polycount of an object?
(I would hate to have spent many hours working on the Arizona and find its not going to work:( )
