I've got a Battle of the Bismark Sea set up in mind for the 38G to play in.

Allies: P-38G, P-40E, A20G, B-17 and B-24 (limited bases)

IJ: A6M5, Ki-61, Kate, Val, Ki-67 (yes, more uber than the Betty, but Allied planes will at least be able to catch it).

That's great!!!!!! er what can catch the A20G? :D  what can shoot down the B17 or the B24? :D  None of those setups will play well unless there is a broad expansion of the IJ aircraft.  This is exactly where the gap in the line up becomes glaringly noticable.

I think both of the new 38s are going to be pretty low useage in the MA once the novalty wears off. The  38G does turn well, yes, but it doesn't turn as well as a spitV, nor does it climb as well. The PJ is a decent plane, but really suffers from stability problems when stacked up against the 38L. The slight bit of extra speed and turn will keep people trying it, but ultimately it's weaker in the areas the 38 most accells in, giving it less of an edge. It's much the same as the relationship between the 51D and the 51B, but in this case the advantages of the late war plane actually make it more fun to fly.

You may be right about their use in the MA.  In the CT they are a very welcome addition despite the fact that I will never fly any of them.

HTC is on the right track here.  They need to flesh out the early-mid war inventory considerably, only then will TOD and the CT be able to attain higher levels of participation.
