Barbie & BigJim...
« on: February 10, 2000, 06:40:00 AM »
Well, recovered a bit of faith yesterday evening (My buddy Bee was there for a while...) and finaly managed to get  few kills again...

Late (00:00 GMT) Was Capping on my own  F22 in my new beloved 190 and was waiting for a bish comming in a Goon...Stupidly keeping my eyes on that runway , ready to jump on any take off...

A Nikki (BigJim) showed up from my High 5"...I was lucky enough to spot it while he was at d80, but still, he was far higher than me....
Ended up to be one of the coolest fights i've done (1 Vs 1), and for a while I even managed to go in BigJim's 6...and stay there for a couple of minutes...Didn'tget the opportunity to line up for a shot, but still, i recall reading "Patience, my boy...patience...."

I finaly blew it up with a too tight turn, ended up in a spin, and Bigjim came in and finished my turning suffocation   ...sigh

<S!>BigJim, had some good fun !

I do have a question however : Later, i went back to to attack F2, and found myself with a lot ammount of AC in the aire (both friendles and enemea...). I was lining up for a smooth shot when a friendly Spit rolls in right between me and the con. I didn't shoot , as I didn't ant to blow my fellow countryman out of the sy, but asked myself this after : Would I have damaged it or is "friendly fire" turned off ?

Cheers

Hi saint.  You would have been shot down!
It's called Kill Shooter. Shoot some one on your side and you shoot down yourself.
Guess it keeps the bad guys from flying for your side and then just when you think you have found a friend in the unfrendly skys.....Blam.

See you on line

If they ever turn it off, you'll know why it's there. Every once in a while a newbie will come on and frag the first plane in the air- no matter if it happens to be the guy in  front of them on the runway or an enemy. They came to kill and they don't care who dies.

In other sims, guys have prided themselves as being the best fraggers and game disrupters ever known. They didn't care this |-| much how angry they made others- in fact, that only made it better for them. I've seen two or three places where killshooter was disabled, and it never worked.

Another way it would be bad. Last night there were some tempers flaring... can you imagine what it would be like if you could chase a guy around, wherever he went, and instantly disrupt anything he did? Nonstop harrassment.

No, killshooter is a gooood thing.

Mhhh, It does make sense.
HTC, will this be the same in the Training area ? I don't want to end up shooting myself when i finaly succeed to pull enough lead int my instructor

Oh, well, forget it, this is only minor...but still, if you could think about that in the future.

Thanks for the answers all !

Killshooter is normally an arena setting, so it would normally be turned off in a training arena.

It would be tough to build up a new player's confidence if every time they succeeded during training their own plane got blown apart.

Killshooter

One place you might see it turned off is in Historical Scenerios.  Friendly fire kill some pilots in RL and recreating that possiblity adds to the imersion in scenerios.  One time I watched one of my squad mates dive on some cons as we were escorting B-17s in P-51s.  I stayed high to cover, but thought "man niether one of those guys see him" (no reaction from the cons) and sure enough BOOM BOOM two Spitfire IX's dead    Oops heat of battle/fog of war    He still catchs hell for that from time to time
