Quick question on Roger Wilco
« on: February 14, 2000, 10:01:00 AM »
I found WINIP that shows me my IP address, I assume this is so I can create a session, give this number out (from WINIP) to others to join, correct?

Question: Does this number change everytime I dial-up?  Didn't have time to test it last night.

BTW< Kudos to Blitz- and his time yesterday, he helped me test out RW, and I must say, it's quite an incredible feeling to be talking to someone while flying, I don't know why I didn't jump on this a couple years ago!  For some reason, I thought the voice would be synthesized!

Rip,  If you have a dial-up connection to your ISP, you "could" be getting a different TCP/IP number each time you dial in.  It's likely assigned to you from a DHCP pool range.

You can use the command "winipcfg" to check it on a 95/98 machine.  If you you have a NIC (network card) in your pc, make sure you switch to the PPP adapter to see the ip address on it.  You will want to give out the ip address of the PPP adapter NOT the NIC.

RW adds a whole new dimension to the game.  Make sure you try a RW server sometime, it's awesome to have your entire flight on the same channel.

Thanks for the prompt reply Mox, yes, that's what I meant to say, WINIPCFG, and yes, it shows PPP.  Thanks!

Rip1, no need to do ipconfig thing. When you create a session with RW, it shows the ip address. Just broadcast that one. 1 less step  .

You might find that you will need to start your RW session BEFORE you start Aces High. For some reason if I don't this, I can be heard but am unable to hear the other parties.

To add/expand on Saw and JimBears comments:  Start RW then either CREATE your own session w/create button, or JOIN a session if you already have one saved that's always on.  For instance; Dingy has cable and his IP addresses are always constant.  So if I log on and try THAT IP address, (FYI - IP's are saved in RW's drop down window) and get a connect, then I know Dingy at least has his system up.
Good hunting in AH, Rip.  Also I found that RW has increased my SA ten fold and my kill ratio tripled.

Hi Rips,

1.I was pleased to help u out with some info :-)
2. First i log on , then start RW ,then fire up AH.
Each time i start RW i create a session + write down my IP number cause if noone is on RW in the game u can invite someone without leaving AH but just passing ure ip over.
If it's the other way round and u want to join someone else RW session u can do ALT+TAB,hit the "leave session" button at the RW screen and then the "join session", fill in his ip and Bingo ,there u are :-)

Ripsnort

You were up as a Rook yesterday, whats with that! ( I think you only killed me twice)

When you and Blitz first started your RW thing I tried to join just to see if it would work but could not get a connection. I started RW before starting AH so I don't know what the problem was.

Next time you are up I will try again.

One word of warning, if you have a cable modem, normally your IP wont change. If you give it out, they will always have it and might listen in on you in the future.

This can be dealt with by using a password, just adds another step.

Tips for roger wilco:
Set you mic up using the test feature and then ask guys later how you sound until you get it set just right

Keep the mic about 2 finger widths from your mouth to avoid blurring

Use a key stroke to key the mic, voice activated often comes on with the sound of breathing and keeps clicking in the other guys ears.

Hi Milo!
I usually fly Rook (my first AH country) when my squaddies are not up, however, since the 12 hour turn-around for returning to country, I think  I may stay Knight now, it used to be 1 hour turn-around but that has changed.

Cya up!

Yes.   The wife yelling at me in the back ground ARE YOU FLYING AGAIN! just once was enough to make me change that setup
