request: waypointable offline buff drones
« on: February 13, 2005, 04:15:22 PM »
Like it says up there.

The constant, NASCAR left turn of the current pony drones is good, but makes true BnZ practice very difficult -- especially trying to simulate buff runs in a 262.

Could we have an option to set up a trio of buffs with the same command set we now have for carrier groups? Instead of being retricted to water tiles and sea level, jsut change the component to a lanc group, set the altitude to 10k, and we're off.

Would be nice for getting the tergeting feel for a head on anti buff run, and for judging off angle leads with a straight flying target.

I totally agree with this!  It would be great to be abale to change the type and direction of the off-line drones.  After practicing so much on the drones, it's very difficult to hit anything in the MA that is not in a 200mph slight left-hand banking turn.

a DOT command like <.drone XXX> where XXX = the plane number.

possibly a <.dronepattern XXX> where XXX is the pattern they fly in.

pattern 1 is the normal counterclockwise circle
pattern 2 is a clockwise circle
pattern 3 is a straight line between the base you are at to the nearest other base, then poof and back to the start.
pattern 4 is a normal circle, but with the drones climbing, and diving either in a set pace, or random occurences. set the climb to 2K above the normal alt, and the dive to 1k below the normal alt.

probably a pain to code the "AI" of it though sadly.

i still say it's a great idea, though never heard anything about it, and forgot to ask at the CON

JB73,

Another command:

.drone speed x

Where x is the speed the drones fly at.  This would be helpful in getting used to shooting at targets moving something other than 200mph.

ohh thats a good one too.

what if like the CV waypoints a box popped up with settings in it. you could hit a "default" button to revert to the old circle.

otherwise you could make like lines of a CV and the drones would fly it in formation -or- 1 waypoint line for each drone. make it selectable.

in the box, there could be boxes for speed, alt, or randomize. the speed and alt settings would have to A: keep the plane in the air B: nto hit any mountians. if the waypoint alt ran into a hill a message could come up.

if that's too tough to "coad" then the plane hits the hill, and goes back to the default circle amybe.

the randome option would make the plane climb and dive variably along the heading, say capping out at 10k and diving to 5k or something.

MAN i can picture the box and all, will try and "draw" what i see later

Training arenas require you to get other people to cooperate.  Something they are usually resistant too.

It also takes about 5 times as long to do anything in them as you don't have full control.

The request is not a really important thing though.

Well, drones are called drones because they do boring things without having to be entertained. People in the training arena do not fit that description.

When my son had an account, i couldnt even convince him to do bomber drone stuff for me, even though i was asking him to shoot back. (ALthough I didnt threaten him with grounding or withheld allowance........hmmmmm) anyway, it just isnt realistic to expect the TA to serve the same purpose as target drones.

The TA?  Really now HT, I can't believe you really think that would satisfy this specific request.  I doubt players want to up bombers dozens of times just to be target practice.

Offline drones which are always at altitude, it's the only answer for this kind of training request.

A buddy and I set up an off line mission to see how may 17s you
could shot down before they dropped on your field. Great way to
train off line.
