Is it me or does the 205 not glide like it did
« on: March 28, 2005, 04:16:54 PM »
I was flyin a 205 saturday morning and took an oil hit, I headed back to the nearest zero alt base about 15 miles away. I was at 7k before I could glide forever from 7k now it seems to fall like a rock...acts like a seafire...Has the model changed on the 205?

Did you remember to turn the prop RPMs all the way down?

I did after I fell about 4k.. didn't seem to make much difference I had all of my flaps just an oil hit (which is way too common in a 205) and it still was not gliding right. One of the reasons I fly the 205 is that it will glide forever and even at stall a person can hit a notch or two of flaps and set it down gently....saturday it just fell out of the sky...hit flaps and it really fell....lol

Yeah frank.

In the case of imminent engine bust, you should pull back the RPM to lowest possible. High RPM causes more drag, and thus plane will glide worse.

205 mistakingly had a feathering props a few versions ago, so when the engine quit the prop autofeathered and did not windmill. It was fixed.
