Regarding our conversation.........

You need a new power supply to keep your system functional.  The old 250W wont do.

However, I wasnt sure if you have a mini-tower case, or the dreaded desktop case, so I did a bit of searching and decided if you have the smaller case, your best bet is just to use your CPU, hard drive and CD ROM in this........

Add this........

And this.........

Total cost $258.98 plus shipping.

Ok, so I said  under 200 bucks, but I was just thinking of a power supply and video card.  But not knowing what kind of case you have, and knowing how much performance gain Skuzzy keeps saying you P4 guys can get with an Audigy soundcard...........and given the low price of the kit I found, it wasn't much more and it will give you a system for under 300 bucks that should last you for awhile and give you some breathing room before you have to go all out.

If you have a mini-tower case now, and you feel there's enough room inside, then go this route instead of the kit.............

Total $201.94 plus shipping.  Save 50 bucks, use everything you already have, just swap out the power supply and video cards, put in the sound card, ready to rock.  That's assuming you have an AGP slot (you didnt say if your current MX 4000 was AGP or PCI).

Or you can wait and keep using your 64MB MX4000.  Sup to you.  I just know you've been talking about getting a new computer forever, and this puts reasonable upgrades within your grasp.

Good luck!

Its a PCI card Star.

Jet, what is wrong with your system now?

Is it just a Power suply and Vid card you need to upgrade?

I know.  In which case, use the second set of links.  That would upgrade your Dell.  The first set of links would basically replace the Dell, only reusing your CPU, Hard Drive, etc (basic components).  It was just a thought, as I wasnt sure if the Dell's case was large enough.  When you asked a week or so ago about a video card, it was a low profile card, thats why I wondered if you might have the smaller "desktop" style case, and would benefit from the larger "tower" style.
