Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are two different competing formats.  It is going to be a format battle.

Blu-Ray is the better format from a technical standpoint, but HD-DVD is backward compatible which makes the DVD manufacturers very happy.

Is this like the good old days of VHS vs beta max?

Heading in that direction, but this time both formats are up in the public, whereas Sony kept BETA private.

Lot of money being tossed about in both camps.  Big names.  It's not going to be pretty.

if im not mistaken HD DVD was behind in total storage size, ande recently found a way to increase capacity, though still not as much as blu ray

doesnt blu ray store like 65+ GB or something?

also isn't the sony playstation III behind blu ray, while xbox II onle is regular dvd?
I don't know what to put here yet.
