Zigrat et al - an aerofiol question
« on: June 09, 2000, 02:53:00 PM »
Having seen your posts in General about the P51 wing I think you guys can help me answer some questions.
A while back I was involved in picking a wing section for a small sports racing car. None of us were aerodynamicists but yours truly was the only one with any ideas. Downloaded the aerofoil library from UIUC and browsed. As size was free but power was restricted (160bhp bike engine)I thought I would go for a section with a high Cl at 0 aoa in order to keep drag down. The section I chose was the Wortman FX62-K-153/20. However the other guys decided this was wrong and went for a much more highly cambered section. Who is right? when power is low surely you need maximum lift (downforce) for the minimum drag??
Or are car aerodynamics different?
