Whistling Death Frame 1 AAR

The 332nd Flying Mongrels had a good night. Especially for those pilots in our squad who landed. Those below had a total of 10 kills.
Maddog 4 kills, 3 assists
Heavy 3 kills
TeeDawg 1 kill, 2 assists
forHIM 1 kill, 6 assists
Sondog 1 kill, 1 assist

Our squad had a total of 14 kills.  I was just a target for someone.

We were to CAP CV 23 and 3. After about 30 minutes of flying around some Ki-84’s came into the picture. We were spilt into 2 groups. A high group flying F4U’s and a lower group in F6F’s. The high group engaged the Ki-84’s who had spotted the fleet for the Ki-67’s that came in from the east. Those were spotted by our lower flight of F6F’s and were pretty much chewed up before they got to our fleet. It was one of those that ended my night rather quickly. Those 20mm can hurt on those Japanese bombers. By the time some of us came back to the fleet there was some N1K2’s over the task groups. Several in my squad manged to land and then some Kates came in. They sunk one of the CV’s! Was a good plan by the IJN.

We were the Nikis over the TG. We finished off the remaining allied over the CV and watched 1 carrier go down, then reloaded and came back hvy to finish the 2nd Carrier. 2 more F4Us engaged us coalt and died )

I also noticed I got an assist on one of my own countrymen when the F6F that was on his 6 vanished in thin air allowing a couple 20mm from my Niki to errantly hit him...sry DmdWind

9 out of 12 C HAWKS landed safely with a total of 10 kills and 7 objs destroyed. We lost 2 to NME fire, and 1 to a disco. Good night for us all in all. Had a Blast!

The Stompin 68th where to Attack P31 and about 15 mins in to the event we where caught from behind and lost about 1/2 of our squad and the other half pressed onto the target and accomplished our obecjtive with the Japanese hot on our tails, Man My hands where sweating and mouth was dry there was no time for turning around and fighting until the target was hit we where running as fast as we could. man what a tense night.

JG54 was tasked with defending V36 and P31. We had a total of 6 for the frame so I chose to split us into 2 groups of 3. Storch, KONG and 33Vortex were to defend P31 while myself, N7 and Tbarone headed over to V36. My group got on station over V36 at close to 30k and setup a search pattern. On the West leg of our search pattern we came across cons to our North and turned to engage. There were 2 groups of F4U's and I decided to engage the first group which was at about 25k. We dove on that first group which turned tail and ran for the second group of F4U's while dropping down to about 12k. The first group of F4U's led us straight to a group of TBM's so I had my group of 3 disengage with the F4U's and attack the TBM's. I got 2, N7 got 3 and Tbarone got 1... there must have been 30 F4U's swirling around us but they were unable to keep us from sweeping the sky of their TBM's. N7 cleared my 6 of a pesky F4U and in turn got on the deck with 2 F4U's of his own. I dove down and shot down 1 off his tail and then a snap shot on the one he was chasing and peeled its wing off for my second F4U kill. While on the deck I had 1 F4U latch onto my 6 and chewin on my tail. Gave me a pilot wound so I decided to ditch before I blacked out and hit a tree.

All in all it was a great encounter and goes to show what a few planes can do  to a whole mess of enemy.

I love nights like that. Nothing better than getting a kill or two and clearing a squadies 6 who is in trouble. They don't happen often, but are real sweet when they do.
