Cannot install AH2041.exe
« on: August 14, 2005, 07:40:25 AM »
I have been attempting the install of AH2041.exe

Thus far I have downloaded AH2041.exe (65.3MB) three times.  In each instance, when the download is complete, I select "open" and nothing happens.  The download of AH2041.exe is where I intended it to be, I find the AH icon (three, actually), but selecting it produces nothing at all.

If memory serves this sort of installation problem is why I stopped playing the game two years ago, although I have continued to subscribe.  I thought I would get around to "fixing" it later, and here I am two years down the road.  Oops.  She Who Must Be Obeyed instructs me to use it or lose it (my AH account).  I will appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you.

Edit: After posting, I did a little maintainence and rebooted.  Now the three downloads of AH2041.exe are...gone.  Pretty frustrating.

Edit: Downloading AH2041.exe yet again (fourth time in 24 hours).  Saving to desktop.  Ordered AH CD, although I have AH2024 on CD and it will not install either.  What am I missing here?

Fourth download of AH2041.exe complete.  Verified (far as I know) that I have indeed downloaded 65.3MB.  Left click "Open."  Nothing happens.  Reboot and this (fourth download of) 65.3MB is gone.  260+MB, hours of downloading and messing with my system to no avail.  I understand this is a Sunday, but was hoping someone had a suggestion.

Download again...sorry :(.. Click here http://downloads.hitechcreations.com/AH2041.EXE to start the download. It will open a box where you will have a choice to save, open, or cancel. I have always selected open at this point, but you can save it to your desk top if you want.

Once the DL finishes, if you selected "open" it should start the installer program automatically, follow prompts and you should be good. If you selected "save" then once the DL finishes "double click" the file on your desk top and this should start the installer, again follow prompts.

If this doesn't work then you may have a poor enough connection that the DL is getting corupted and you'll have to wait for the disk, or someone more knowledgable than I  :)

Good luck

Thank you for responding, Fugitive

As far as technique, been there, done that :).  This ain't my first rodeo with HTC.  The thought has been in the back of my small mind that my connection is indeed so poor the d/l is corrupted, yet I played this silly game for a long time with the same poor connect and had fewer problems than most.

I will wait for the CD and/or start download #5 tonight.  Another couple days (or weeks) after so long doesn't matter.  It will give me time to remove 2-3mm of dust off the HOTAS and get the cat hair out of the rudder pedals.

Thanks again.

If I understand you correctly, the download is simply disappearing from your hard drive.  This indicates a very serious problem with your computer.  My best guess is you have either left on your anti-virus during the download, which could cause the problem, or you already have a virus on your computer preventing the download/installation.

Our installation does not remove the file download.  Something else is removing it from your computer.

I just downloaded the install file and started the install with no problem whatsoever. Nevertheless i noted a few things that might help to shade the light into the issue.

1. Internet explorer downloads the file and when the download is finished copies it to the selected location, at least this APPEARS to be what is happening.

2. nevertheless, when i execute the file a window pops up warning me that this has been downloaded from the net.

That means the file is not there like a normal file but somehow marked by windows. This also means diffrent settings in the internet explorer or windows will deny you the execution and kill the file.

Ok, let me try to explain. You can have security settings in your browser that prevent downloading the file correctly.

You can have security settings in windows that prevent executing that file.

You can have a virus checker active that will quarantaine or delete the file after downloading.

The windows requester that shows up has a mark to set it on show always or not to show, might be you can put it on not to show and have it somehow default to no. That means no action whatsoever when the file is double clicked.

I have no solution for you but i am sure that you have a windows XP security problem here, no problem with the file but with the way of downloading it.

Maybe skuzzy can get you a solution for this with this information.

EDIT: Possibly AH2041 has no valid digital signature attached and is therefor automatically refused with restrictive explorer settings?
