Calling all P38 pro's

So how in the h** do you fight in this thing?
I decided to give the 'ol 38 a try, switching over from my beloved Hellcat.  But I'm having a hard time stall fighting in it.  Sure I could BNZ to my hearts content but that's kinda boring, I like to mix things up.  I know part of my problem is just the usual adjustments that come with learning a new plane, but any pointers or TA help would be appreciated.  I thought I'd start with the 38J and go from there.. I like the G except the windscreen is hard for me to see through, I can't make out the enemy planes against the ground (color blindness issues).  J seems to be used the least so I thought I'd challenge myself and try and learn it.

Thanks,

Soulyss,

You might try zipping a note to pellik if you see him in MA.

He very graciously spent a chunk of time trying to show me the 38 ropes, jsut cause I asked; even though after 15 minutes I realized I needed help in intermediate fighter tactics more than specific P38 tips.

BTW pellik -- Still have the films, still working through them step by step to wring all the good stuff out!!

Use the L if you're learning the P-38 and once you've got it down then switch to the other P-38s if you want.

And don't use combat trim in the P-38, it hinders more than helps.

If you see me online in the MA you can PM me for help if you want.

The reason why it's recommended not to use combat trim in the P-38 is that it negates the lift effects of the flaps and dive flaps.  Combat Trim will try the plane to compensate for the lift, which renders them pretty much useless.  There is only a small window where combat trim is effective in the P-38 and it's so small that you're better off not using them as they will not gain you anything at all.

You'll also notice that you'll get tighter turns with CT off.
