I was helping a elderly client of mine who was in WWII ,and we were talking of the hurricanes and he told me that during WWII a naval destroyer and several ships    capsised and sank because of a tropical hurrican,he says hundreds of people died and ships were never recovered,I googled some info but nothinbg definitive on the subject, any of you history buffs know anything about this?

Yeah, it happened. Can't recall when though...I'll have to check some of my Destroyer books at home, one of them mentioned a cyclone or a hurricane that took quite a few navy ships down.

Edit: Make that "Typhoon".

Found a mention of it:
The next day the weather, however, soon turned sour for Halsey's sailors. A furious typhoon struck his fleet, catching many ships refueling and with little ballast in their nearly dry bunkers. Three destroyers-Hull (DD-350), Monaghan (DD-354), and Spence (DD-512)-capsized and sank. Wisconsin proved her seaworthiness as she escaped the storm unscathed.
