Stolen Jet update
« on: October 13, 2005, 11:45:14 AM »
Here's a continuation of the stolen jet thread (following the unfortunate threadjack) with an update.

He's been charged with felony theft:

The article suggests that additional federal charges are also coming.

Sorry about that Chairboy.

I also wanted to make sure you got that it was the thief that is type rated in a Westwind (IA-Jet) and that's what it means in his certificates.  Just means he's a jet pilot who stole a jet.  :O

Hell, with my prop PPL, _I_ could probably take off and fly a jet, but I'd spend enough time playing with switches that my passengers might get a bit concerned.

Interesting, though, I'd really like to hear his defense.

Defense? Theft for a joyride is indefensible.

...which is why I'm curious to hear what he says in his defense in court.  Even if he pleads out, he's gotta explain WHY he thought it was a good idea.

rgr that.. I'd be intrested in the same way a hangman would be intrested in hearing the condemned's mea culpa.

I would think that he was either drunk, on drugs, or thought he could get away with it.

And what's with the other people on the plane?  How did they get onboard if the jet wasn't scheduled for a trip?

So far I haven't seen any info on the passengers but I would be willing to wager that they were aquainted with the "pilot" and he convinced them that the ride would be legit.  Must have been some party.
Do not attribute to malice what can be easily explained by incompetence, fear, ignorance or stupidity, because there are millions more garden variety idiots walking around in the world than there are blackhearted Machiavellis.

:lol

I like that!

When I worked the line one of my many jobs not in the description but part of the job where I worked included a thorough detailing of each airplane after each flight.  No soot was to be on the nacelles or gear doors of the king air and the best part...polish the TRs on the jets

I'd sit in the cockpit while cleaning the windshield and display panels and the tempting thought was always there to do a few touch and gos.  Too bad the B-100 King Air is such a POS I don't want to fly one ever again.  If it was an F-90...we're outta here!

The theft charges are probably the least of his problems. The feds are going to eat him alive with the help of the patriot act. Especially given that a "multi-passenger jet" was involved.
