One of the most memorable for the USMC.  We got through to the enemy CV in 3 waves.   Dive bombing Vals, then Torpedo Kates, then more Divebomber Kates.  Got the CV and the Cruiser.  I think there were a bunch of F4F's and SBD's looking for some dry land in a hurry after that.  Sorry to spoil the night for the CHawks defending A14.  After the CV was down, nothing could reach A14.   everyone.

LOL Doobs.

Man, one of the best parts of staffing an event like tonight is watching from CM Eye and seeing the plans unfold.

I was watching 12 when I see Karaya mention that 12 was flashing, and wondered what was there.  Can't remember who, but someone said they would see in a few minutes.

Unfortuneately I was watching about 12 to 14 formations of JU88s unloading, unanswered, on 12 at the time thinking, wow, the only thing they are going to see is a freeking divot lol

Great frame all, well fought both sides!

Nightmares hit A12 (Lae) and we came in a very tight group (we set the radar off at the same time).

The JU88s stormed in and were almost at the base when the first call of P40s came over VOX from our screening A6M2s. Your right ROC we basically got to unload on the base unmolested. Well for one pass but after that the P40s were all over us .. ripping away at us with their .50s and .30s while we extended out and tried to turn back for another pass.

8 Boxes of JU88s hit the base on the first pass, I think maybe 4 hit it on a second pass and only 2 boxes (1 full box of 3 and 1 box of 2) made it home to A13 (Gasmata). Of our 9 escorting A6M2s only 2 returned to base.

I was the first group of JU88s in and boy after I dropped and extended out .. it GOT HAIRY! I got shot down and bailed and watched the battle progress and then hung out on the beach and watched for a bit drinking a mai tai that the natives supplied me with for an absurb amount of yen!

Anyway the zekes and the P40s really ended up dirt fighting over A12 as what looked like more P40s came in.

It literally felt like .. hmm no enemy let me drop my eggs, eggs gone hey their are some P40s about let me extend .. where they hell did all these P40s come from!!!!! I had 4 on me at one point in my poor old JU88s.

It was a blast!

Curses JB42, I would have never thought you would have had time to rearm and attack again.  Our second lifes were spent mostly flying around looking for a fight.  Finally found one over A12 and got more than we could handle.  Took out a share of P40's and F4F's though.  Wish we would have found your SBD's.  We were looking for ya.
